Sorry, if I got off thread Anna. I actually thought I was referring to Prince's situation as I was responding to Beth's comments which also referred to other entertainment artists. She was using Mariah Carey and I was using an unnamed comedian as an analogy. However, the point is the same, Prince living in that entertainment world is subject to becoming self confident to the point that decisions made are not always in his best interest. Often hanger-ons promote such a personal view. Of course all that is coming out now is what the news media releases (not always the best source). Even so, they are saying that his net worth is about 300 million dollars and if that is true then he was doing some things in his best interests. While they are saying that he died intestate, I suspect that he had other provisions in business structures. It's no big deal. Remember this is in music though.

FINALLY found the video I've been looking for all week. Knew it had to be there. Prince at the Brits, 2006 One of the best performances. Don't start it unless you intend to watch it all. Also, I think the Hall of Fame induction performance might be stacked on with this one. You're welcome. The last half of this one is one of my favorites. I hope YT lets it stay. It's a good example of why he had pain problems.

I think artists, especially very talented artists, sometimes become convinced they have to do everything. They lose the ability to delegate responsibility (if they ever had it to begin with). Obviously, it's a control issue. It may be admirable to a point, but it isn't good for business, if you see what I mean. People (generally speaking) loved Prince to the point many of them wanted little pieces of him and he really didn't have any kind of barrier set up to protect himself. He was in need of good management who could and would protect and promote without eating him alive. Well, he's Legend now, Right up there with Buddy Holly, Elvis, Ray Charles, David Bowie, all of the great ones. I hope whoever is put in charge of his body of work treats it with respect. All i can say is that i was lucky to see Prince in 2007 on his Earth Tour. A record 21 dates at the 02 arena in London.... ALL sell outs. 351,527 / 351,527 (100%)attendance, $22,052,026 revenue. August 1, 2007 London United Kingdom The O2 Arena 351,527 / 351,527 $22,052,026 August 3, 2007 August 4, 2007 August 7, 2007 August 10, 2007 August 11, 2007 August 14, 2007 August 17, 2007 August 18, 2007 August 24, 2007 August 25, 2007 August 28, 2007 August 31, 2007 September 1, 2007 September 6, 2007 September 9, 2007 September 12, 2007 September 13, 2007 September 16, 2007 September 20, 2007 September 21, 2007

Art for Art's sake, money for God's sake. Hear hear. Someone's got to be oppressed . I don't think it should be the artist.

I decided a few years back that i had a bucket list of artists that i wanted to see before they either died or got too old.

Well those symptoms could be caused by taking too much medication, or taking meds he was allergic to. The kind of pain pills he was supposedly taking are very hard on the stomach even in smaller doses. It might have been stomach ulcers or some kind of fast acting, undiagnosed cancer. He might have been poisoned, but I'd put that ass highly unlikely.

Thank you for putting up Prince's piano work of 'Summer Time.' There is no doubt that he was talented. I do appreciate his rendition of that old standard.

Well, that's really the point. He could do just about anything he wanted with music .. played a variety of instruments with skill ... very creative. Could arrange, choreograph and compose as well as perform. Knock out talent.
Should also add, he had the piano custom made with extra sound effects built in.

Hi Dex, If he hasn't made out a will and there are no claims made on his estate, can the Government claim it all? No doubt if there are claimants then the lawyers will score and a huge chunk of his estate will be eaten up anyway. People will be coming out of the woodwork all over the place. With all that money it is no surprise, you would have thought he would have attended to that ages ago.

However, the state of Minnesota has provisions for that and his siblings (6 in all, I think) stand to inherit equally.

He might have been poisoned, but I'd put that ass highly unlikely. It's easy to speculate. It could have been various things ... the pain meds, of course. They cause so many deaths in this country that some doctors won't prescribe them unless patients attend "pain clinics" to learn how to manage. Could have been natural causes of some kind, certainly. Various things could have caused toxic shock or a heart issue could have caused aspiration he could not come out of with no one to help or call in medics. I'm sure we'll know when the autopsy and testing is complete. Sorry it happened ... well .. I guess the world is sorry it happened.
