Funny thing, but people who have covered Prince's tunes seem to have done them better than he did. I don't know about that, Fret. He had some great albums and was a knock out stage performer. He wasn't selfish with his music when it came to other performers. Manic Monday and Nothing Compares 2 U are the only ones I can think of that were big for other singers

If some people don't like hip hop, they are going to need another sound for the same music. Prince was a genius. I like straight rock better like a lot of folks. That takes nothing away from the artist known as Prince.

I wouldn't say I was a Sinead O'Connor fan, I hate that version, but it was a phenomenal success with the buying public. Great guitar player as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not the general public.

He deliberately sought to retard record sales, because of his legal disputes with Warner Bros. The crappy records he made were intended not to sell.

Which ones are you talking about, Fret? Maybe they did better in England than they did here. Prince was a giant here. Bigger than any of those that also recorded his music.

he wasn't a savvy as Zappa then, was he. In what way, fret ... 'splain, please. Sounds interesting. Give the label too many albums. Warner Bros Records refused to release the quadruple-LP Läther Frank Zappa recorded in the 70s, thinking it would be commercial suicide. After Zappa then played it on a radio show and encouraged listeners to tape it, he and the label had a Mexican stand-off. Even though he was prevented from recording for a year, he did get out of the deal. He subsequently released his most successful album, Joe's Garage (a triple-LP) on his own label. More ways to wriggle out of a record deal

Very nicely done. Good for Zappa. Record companies have squeezed artists as long as they've existed.

Senate Pays Tribute To Prince The Senate passed a resolution, inked with purple text, Wednesday night honoring the late pop star Prince, who died last week at 57 years old. Minnesota Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken introduced the resolution -- meant to pay tribute to the life and achievements of Minneapolis-born Prince Rogers Nelson, "a musician, composer, innovator, and cultural icon" -- after Prince's sudden death last week. "While the Senate may disagree on a lot of issues, today we agreed on one: Prince was a one-of-a-kind artist, fiercely independent and uniquely talented," Klobuchar wrote after the Senate voted. "For Minnesotans, Prince was our superstar next door. He made 'Purple Rain' a household name, First Avenue a landmark, and brought international fame to Minnesota's music scene. He will be missed." Sen. Franken praised the passage of the resolution. Prince Fan Tributes www.cbsnews.com/pictures/prince-mourning-his-death-celebrating-his-life-and-music/
