This is Roger Federer? Even I could have done better.au.sports.yahoo.com/tennis/news/article/-/7248397/video-roger-federer-whiffs-match-point-nadalChris Chase, The Busted Raquet, Yahoo!7 May 17, 2010, 3:32 pm It's one of the most inexplicable things you'll ever see on the tennis court: The greatest player in history swung and missed on match point in Sunday's final of the Madrid Open against archrival Rafael Nadal. The announcers speculated that the ball took a bad bounce on Federer, but I've watched the clip at least 20 times and don't see anything out of the ordinary on the bounce. It takes a little side hop, but that's what usually happens off a Nadal backhand. Federer just missed.Let's say there was a bad bounce though. Even then, Federer shouldn't be whiffing like he's David Ortiz. Coming up empty on a routine forehand is something that doesn't happen at junior tennis levels, let alone in a match between the two best players in the world. Maybe he's the best player in the world. Maybe. But not by much.
I've always liked Nadal. I think technically he's the better player but Federer has the better temperament. Or had, until I saw this!
Unbelievable.

OMG!!!! Have I finally found a tennis fan??? I am an avid tennis watcher!!!
My son and I watched this match. We watched that last point.......and went "what"? Backed it up and watched it five more times and still didn't get it. They said he mis-timed his swing. I still don't get it. Nadal had been running him all over the court non-stop and maybe he didn't expect him straight back to him, but seriously......it was match point......and he was standing right there!!!!
I was stunned.
Nadal is my man. Can't wait for Roland Garros!!!! He's healthy....he's knees are great.....he's 15-0 on clay right now..........he's lost two sets in all those games. Going to be awesome!
Venus got her butt handed to her by a French player I had never really heard of......I have to go check her out.....she played really well.....I like Venus.....can't stand Serena. But my favorite female player is Justine Henin. That backhand is just a thing a beauty.

But then, I guess that's what got him where is. Gabriel

i don't watch much tennis, although occassionally i like to see the girls, but not for the racquet. however, to say that federer is the best ever is total nonsense. jimmy connors, andre agassi, and, i can't remember his name offhand, the chap that was insane, were the best

McEnroe was never insane........he knew how to put on a show and how to get his name and tennis in the news........and he did it often.
Or you could be talking about Ilie Nastase, nicknamed the Bucharest Buffoon.

I liked Maccas. Oh yeah. What that guy could do with one tantrum was sheer poetry. And I reckon he's still the best volleyer I've ever seen. Maybe Edberg was as good.
YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING!!!!!
My attempt at a Maccas tanty.

And here's one for you. Former Wimbledon champ Pat Cash is a grandfather at 44. I didn't even know he was that old.wwos.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=1053953Tennis ace Cash a grandfather at 44 By Darren Walton 16:30 AEST Tue May 18 2010 Australia's former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash is chuffed to be a grandfather, at 44 years of age. Australia's former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash is chuffed to be a grandfather - at just 44 years of age. Cash's 22-year-old daughter Mia had a yet-to-be-named baby girl in Norway at the weekend and Grandad Pat couldn't be happier. "Yes, very proud of that. My daughter's had a very healthy baby girl," Cash told AAP on Tuesday. "It (becoming a grandfather) was a bit quicker than I expected, I've got to be honest. "Then again, my kids came a bit sooner than I expected too. "So, yeah, I was a young dad and now I'm a young grandad. "I'm very excited, though. As soon as I leave here, I'll be on the plane up to Oslo to see the new addition to the Cash family." Cash, who has spent the past fortnight working with Australia's elite junior tennis players at the AIS in Canberra, has four children of his own - Mia and Daniel, 24, from his relationship with Norwegian model Anne-Britt Kristiansen and twins Shannon and Jett with former wife Emily. Still active on the professional seniors tour, Cash will celebrate his 45th birthday on Thursday week. BTW sadie, our man Nadal has moved up to World No 2. Oh yeah!

i think i mean john mcenroe, but not sure I think Federer is currently considered the best. Agassi (my favorite) is thought by many to be the best service returner in the history of tennis. He also is the only male player in history to have achieved the Career Golden Slam. But, RF is considered to have the best "complete game" in modern tennis. He has won 16 Grand Slam titles which certainly says a lot.

I think Roger Federer is immensely talented. Because of him many in the men's game had to raise the level of their own play. But they have and are now competing right up there with him.
Roger has some great weapons.....a backhand that is gorgeous to watch......but I don't really like to watch him......there's just no fire there. Also......I've never gotten over the deal that at the 2009 Australian Open after he lost to Nadal he sat there and cried almost uncontrollably.......Nadal apologized to him for beating him......he was crying so much. I mean seriously.........Nadal had just won the Australian Open and has to feel bad about it because the other guy is bawling his eyes out and it's the World's #1 player. He's won that one 3 times.

Well sadie, our man Nadal took care of Leyton Hewitt. No big surprise there. Hewitt won the US Open and I think 1 day later it was 9/11. His time is gone. He needs to give up gracefully.
Sam Stosur is the only Aussie left in the singles. She did this well last year but she's up against Serena with her weird wardrobe. But she beat Henin which I thought was pretty cool.
Go Sam but I don't think she will. Go my man Nadal.
Roll on Wimbledon.

Soderling took out Federer (Soderling took out Nadal last year). My man will have sent a big basket of whatever to Soderling.
You go Nadal. You are the man. You will win.
And Sam Stosur took out Williams! I'm delighted for her. She's got rid of Henin and Williams in the same week. That says a lot about her ability. I think she's got a serious shot at the title.
You go Sam. You'd be the 1st Australian woman since Margaret Court in the '70's to win at Roland Garros.
Best of luck.

www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/stosur-can-win-french-open-says-court/story-e6frg7mf-1225874994486THE player with the most Grand Slam singles wins in either men's or women's tennis, Margaret Court, says Sam Stosur can take the French Open and put an Australian woman's name back on a major trophy. Court, who collected 24 Slam singles in her career, is also the last Australian French Open winner, beating Chris Evert in 1973. She said she has been sitting up late in her Perth home each night watching 26-year-old Stosur’s progress through the Roland Garros draw. "I was delighted the way she handled Serena (Williams) but I thought her tennis really shone in the win over (Justine) Henin because there’s a player with a real clay-court specialist game.’’ Henin, a four-time French Open champion, lost to Stosur in the fourth round. Stosur then beat world No.1 and top seed Serena Williams in a three-set quarter-final which ended early this morning. Now it is onto Serbia’s former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic in tonight’s semi-finals. "She’s got the game and she’s fit enough – probably fitter than she’s ever been," Court said of Stosur. "And now that it’s anybody’s tournament, Sam has as good a chance as the rest of the semi-finalists."Russian Elena Dementieva and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone play in the first semi-final on Phillippe Chartrier Court (centre court) tonight at 10pm followed by the Stosur-Jankovic match. Stosur is only the third Australian to beat a world No.1 after Jelena Dockic beat Kim Clijsters in Zurich in 2003 and Nicole Bradtke beat Steffi Graf in a 1993 Fed Cup tie. The Gold Coast resident is only the second player to beat Henin and Williams in the same Grand Slam. Lindsay Davenport did it at the 2000 US Open before losing in the final to Venus Williams. Stosur is a former world No.1 doubles player and has four Grand Slams in doubles. But her breakthrough in singles came in Paris exactly 12 months ago when she reached the semi-finals of the French but lost to eventual champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.Stosur kept rising up the rankings and claimed her first WTA singles titles in Osaka last October, after failing five times previously. She won her second title in April this year at Charleston, South Carolina, claiming the prestigious Family Circle Cup on clay. She has the best 2010 record on clay this year of any woman on the WTA tour – 19 wins and only two losses (Henin in Stuttgart, Venus Williams in Madrid). While Court is Australia’s last French Open champion, Evonne Goolagong Cawley was the last female Grand Slam champion, beating Evert at Wimbledon in 1980. The last Australian male to win was Lleyton Hewitt, also at Wimbledon, in 2002. Well if Margaret Court thinks she has a chance, then go Sam go.

I was so happy with Sam's win over Serena.......like I have said......I really like Venus.....but just can not deal with Serena. In her interview afterwards she actually said if she had played better for 2 minutes it would have been a different outcome.......2 MINUTES!!! She never seems to give her opponents any credit for their work.
I'm hoping Stosur takes the whole thing!! She's been great.
I want the mens to come down to Nadal -Soderling. That would be awesome. Soderling just has to know he'll be playing a different Nadal than last year. Last year he was hurt.....his knees were so bad....he couldn't move. This year they are fine and his snarl is back........I think it will be a heck of a match.
