You backed Trump? Don't you know a sleeze when you see one? He's mostly a liar who tells people what he wants them to think. Overall he is not a very nice person and seems to be a disgrace as a president. Pence is worse though. I agree with Beth on that one.
Actually I would say he is more honest than most politicians he often says things that you would expect to lose him votes.
Most politicians say what they think will be popular rather than what they really believe.

Well, Lin and I backed Trump and Brexit but NOT Le Pen and (sadly) not Leicester. We did however back the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner (normally our horse either wins or comes second so we place each-way bets.) You backed Trump? Don't you know a sleeze when you see one? I am not sure if this is yet another case of two nations being separated by a common language but Mouse is quite right. When I used the term 'back' I referred to placing a bet on Trump to win the election. Just as I did on Brexit. In both cases I expected to lose my money. As for sleaze, I hardly think that Dubya, Clinton and Reagan were squeaky clean examples of leadership. Nor, if it comes to that, is Hillary Clinton. On a more general note I find it sad that you, Dex, seem to be displaying the same kind of elitist snobbery about the working class voters in your country daring to vote in a way that offends you. We have had the same problem in Britain since Brexit gave the political Mafia a kick up the proverbial. Trump has actually achieved almost none of his declared intentions and IMO is highly unlikely to do so even in two terms. As for his chances of re-election, his core support is solid. The Democrats will NOT shift swing voters by choosing Hillary Clinton or a slimmed down version of her. Like Trump, they need to be bold and choose a candidate for change.

I read Dex's "sleaze" comment to mean those who cling to racism and conspiracy theories. It never occurred to me he meant anything to disparage good honest people trying to improve their lives. I think you are underestimating him. No, Hillary would be the worst idea ever for the left. It's truly time for her to leave the stage and write a book or something.

President Trump has been the target with all sorts of negative names. In your response points I can only offer a different perspective in one area, and that is in whether President Trump has been achieving his goals. In my opinion he has been doing quite well during his short time in office. Apparently both in England and here, there are those who do not support some elected officials and refer to them in quite negative ways outside of their performing in office. But this has not been unheard of in our country through the history of our Presidents. Andrew Jackson (and his wife) were pilloried in the most terrible ways, as was President Grant, and was Woodrow Wilson, and so was Eisenhower, and others. Some were praised as wonderful people when in truth they were anything but. Now it is, the in thing to do of talking negative about President Trump and he does have a personality which many find difficult to accept. However, he was not elected to act with a specific personality, rather, he was elected to perform the job as President, as President as defined in the Constitution.

Ireland are through to the women's hockey world cup final V the Netherlands, they have no chance really, they did amazingly well to get to the final, they are 10-1 to win and 7-1 to draw. I have backed both, game is 4.30 pm UK time today. Will see how they go! Bit off topic but no time to start a thread!
