There are a couple of trends I've seen in the past two years that I don't get. People dying their hair weird colors and it being acceptable. Im not necessarily against it but it was not accepted at all when I was growing up, people that did back then were called freaks.
What is a trend acceptable now that just wasn't when you were growing up?

What is a trend acceptable now that just wasn't when you were growing up? Mostly the tattoos and the androgynous clothing. I don't know where you are zim, but in eastern mid America, teens have been doing the multi-colored hair for years. It was strange at first, but not less groanable now. btw, welcome to Babylon.

The tats (body art) are the most noticeable things to me. Not a few, tastefully placed, but the total hand and arm coverage .. also shoulders and neck coverage. Hard to believe they want to go through life like that.

Hello Zimcat, I think you will find it interesting here.
I’m old so I find everything new since the 1950s as disturbing (that’s a joke). But one thing I find just dumb are those who let their pants hang very low. Besides being very stupid looking, they demonstrate that they are only interested in trying to shock others with their low IQ.

The thing I like least right now is the fad of shaving a patch of hair off from the temple to back behind the ear on one side (females). I work with a girl who just had this done and also had her hair bleached white. I know she thinks it looks cool but, honestly, it's just ugly.

my eldest son now in his mid 50s had his hair dyed varing shades of blonde.. greens and reds and various styles too from over long to cut very close and younger son had his hair shaved.. or with a stand up over large stand up in the centre of his head and at one time one side was normal the other shaved and dyed plus a whole series of ear peircings on his ear lobes like Men I deplore the fashion of half mast trousers/jeans grandson 2 loved it though.. happily seems to have grown out of it too.. he also had a fad for having his head shaved in patterns but these days sticks to a neat cut with matching beard Gs1 favoured the full shaven head look or shaved to the top of his ears the rest grown long and tied back and tattoos on his body [but where they can be hidden when at work] ... at the moment he has a pony tail hair do..eeeuuughghgghh with a massive full beard and its bright red.. but it fits in with his hobby of medieval jousting/fightingeeuughgghh again luckily my daughter was normal..in all aspects of dress and hair and my granddaughter seems also inclined to go for looking good in a normal way.. with nothing too outrageous ..of course theres time for her to change
trends when I was younger were drain pipe trousers for male and fmale.. I remember I has a pair so tight I couldn't sit down in them

None of my children or grandchildren have leaned to the extreme. Of course the girls (3 of them) wear leggings, but they are slender and do not look out of place. Also, they do streak their hair but in subtle ways, not extreme. I agree with you abut the maternity wear. There were several pictures in the news of Amal Clooney, expecting twins in May, out and about with her husband and friends. It was refreshing to see her in mostly more traditional attire.

When I was pregnant with my twins, I wore loose maternity clothes, but I was still shy about my condition. How any woman can go around like that in public, is beyond comprehension. To each her own I guess.!!!

Hi Men an tol, Most young people want to fit in, so whatever the trend happens to be, they will follow it.!!! Certainly, Scottish Lassie that is true and it has been true for a long time. Each generation tries to make it’s stamp on society as they try to act differently, talk differently, dress differently and believe differently. Because they have limited life experiences, what they do often (to them) seems to be newly discovered, but most often it isn’t but rather demonstrates a lack of education (which they will gain over time) or merely an attempt to shock by demonstrating against societal norms. It can be that some of their acting illuminates societal weaknesses, and then pushes society to reexamine itself. Such can contribute to society’s growth. However, when the acting of youth is simply to shock with no underlying proven concepts, it can be more destructive than positive. So too when youth are acting on sincerely believed ideas that are based on false concepts. Adults have a role to play in this by helping youth (in many different ways) to grow from these experiences. If however adults merely reinforce mistaken beliefs or do not demonstrate that there are alternative paths, the lives of those youth can become more difficult to realize maturity.

Hi Men an tol, Would you rather people went around in the nude? There are nudist colonies around and I would personally prefer to look at someone with their trousers at half mast than not wearing any at all. Horrible.!!!

I was talking about societal norms and you take it into the ludicrous.
