In the thread “Digital Guide to the Constitution” Chefmate51 presented a good reference for the Constitution and now that thread has disappeared. What happened? This the second time I have posted this message? ? that is my fault Men, I removed it but will put it back up. sorry I won't even try to explain my logic in removing it it's back up Thanks ChefMate. There are several such analysis of the Constitution. Each is a little different due to varying interests of the one (group) doing the analysis. A good one was written and published by a friend of mine, Edward Kole, “The True Intent of the First American Constitutions of 1776-1791” Ed included the Constitution by clause and its intent is, an assemblage of parallel clauses from the Constitution of the United States of America, The Declaration of Independence, the thirteen pre-1791 state constitutions, the Articles of Confederation, and "The Federalist". It is a great reference. However, he initially wrote “The First 13 Constitutions of the First American States” which places in one book each of the State Constitutions which preceded the Constitution of the United States. Again, a great reference book. There is also a wonderful five volume set titled “The Founders’ Constitution” which is also written by Clause and after each clause are the various words and writings of those of the Founding period. If you’re looking for a good legal reference it is the “Constitution of the United States of America -Revised and Annotated” and published by the Congressional Research Service - Library of Congress. Here the Constitution is printed, by Clause, and included with each clause are the applicable legal cases as decided by the Federal Court System. It is also indexed by case. There are others and I suggest that all you can get your hands on are worth the money. Many libraries carry these publications.

There are others and I suggest that all you can get your hands on are worth the money. Many libraries carry these publications. Are they all, generally, the same, Randy .. or do they vary depending on POV? That is a good question Beth and it depends on the intent of those doing the analysis. The ones by Edward are simply combining existing writings which address the same area of the Constitution. Ed made a point of keeping opinion out of the finished books and providing only reference materials. The same could be said about that publish by the government since it is only the publishing of those decisions as made by the federal courts. That which is addressing the words of the Founders could be said to have some opinion in the editing of what was selected. It demonstrates differences and similarities among those of Founding period, but the words are those of the Founders. For example, some are exact reprints of the records of the 1st Continental Congress. There were clearly differences between the Founders and that is why reading the ‘Federalist Papers’ and the ‘Anti-Federalist Papers’ is important. While the Federalists won since the Constitution was ratified, the differences between these two groups of Founders is not well understood today. I would make the point that both groups were Liberals and represented on the one side a weak government and on the other side an active government, and their words reflect those differences. Individual Rights and Individual Freedoms were dominate as goals for both groups. The dialog between these two groups reflect much of what we still debate today and I would also suggest that as a group (groups) they were far more knowledgeable about governments and the governmental agreements than most are today. However, anyone reading these reference sources who seeking definitive and singular answers, they will be disappointed. That is because these are reference materials and have to be considered along with other understanding of the Constitution and then come to one’s own conclusions. Few of the questions of today have the anticipated finality of answers as come from a court decision.

Few of the questions of today have the anticipated finality of answers as come from a court decision. I'll keep this in mind. As I suppose it is with most people, I give more weight to opinion that coincides with my own. In spite of that, I can be objective if I put my mind to it. I'll have a look, first chance, if only to be better able to know what some of you scholars are talking about.

Absolutely. I was actually quite healthy the last 10 years or so I worked in the classroom. I had already contracted everything going around and built up an immunity to it. Oh mouse, I am so sorry about the smoking. Most of us used to smoke, but when we were informed about what we could expect, we managed to quit. Not a fun experience but well worth the effort. Can't you change over to the electronic cigs? Even the younger people are using them now.

Dear Beez, I am running out of time but do want to say "hello" and that I hope you and yours are having a lovely Xmas season. Come back and chat with us when you can find time. I am sure we'd all like an update on what is going on in your little part of Texas and how life is treating you.
love, Jessie

Even the younger people are using them now. have tried the e giggies..but to no avail..i have virtually stopped...5-6 per day and even that is suspect as most of the time I don't really smoke them...at the moment needless to say I am not smoking at all as its an impossibility...but the damage is done and cannot be undone.....one good thing though...its made daughter stop and been a good lesson to the grandchildren
