Happy Monday
Got a little over half done with all our baking yesterday. Just seemed to take forever and our batter just seemed to keep multiplying by itself in the bowl.......did manage to get in a short swim and my mother joined us so that was very nice.
It was my parent's 62nd anniversary yesterday. The first one without my dad.....I was concerned how my mom would be doing....but she seemed pretty good. I took her roses in the morning. My dad always gave her roses and she always fussed at him for spending the money on them.........I was really ok and pretty happy with the whole thing up until I left and was driving to coffee with my friends.....then I kind of broke down.....but it's just a new tradition of celebrating it.......
Think we are hitting a 105 deg. F (40 deg C) today......woohoo....down a whole degree!!!
Hope everyone has a lovely day.......stay safe out there!!!

wet and windy and yet again grey all over so much for summer...perhaps the 7 or 8 days we have already had was the sum total for this year my garden is battered and doubt it will recover for this year..what the rain hasn't ruined the winds have... Sorry summer missed you, mouse. Maybe it just isn't there yet. It's Just the second week of July. There's some time left. it seems to miss us on a regular basis...

Well an eventful day here yesterday. We had a bank robbery......at around noon.....a Bank of America......then right before 5 pm and major traffic.....an 18 wheeler ran into a concrete barrier on a major interstate and spilled diesel fuel everywhere and shut down the entire interstate. Then a woman got robbed at an ATM and forced to strip down..... Woohoo......It was an odd Monday
Oh....also....we have had a very large pond here in town.....for a long time it was called Buffalo Wallow......(I guess suggesting buffalo used to wallow in the water) Well they fixed it up years ago......and made it Freedom Park. There have always been a large number of ducks and geese and different wild birds that stay there or stop by while migrating. Many people go out there walking and lots of people go and feed the ducks. Well last week the City decided the ducks were a nuisance and possibly carried disease and put a fence around the entire place and announced they were going to kill the ducks. Well OMG......there are protests going on and people going berserk. Several groups have come forward offering to relocate the ducks...etc....and the City just says no......I'm not sure what is really going on.....but people are out there with signs and I figure it won't be long before they are some sort of confrontations over that!!! It's not going to go well.....we had two areas that had a large population of prairie dogs......the city said they were going to re-home them because of some expansion going on......people found out they killed them.....and so there have been some bad feelings for awhile.
Hope all of you have a wonderful day.......stay safe out there.

Here where we live a few years ago there was a controversy over pigeons and crows nesting in the exterior beams of public buildings and making a mess on the sidewalks. They try many different things and even once talked about killing them, but eventually they placed netting over the beams and the problem minimized. Today there is little problem with the wild birds. We also have many small holding ponds and the river through the center of town and the migrating ducks and geese use them but there doesn’t seem to be a major problem with them. Maybe you could suggest that the mayor and city council float in boats in the pond blowing horns. It probably won’t scare away the birds but it will keep city officials out of the way and not doing dumb things.

This is an article from our local paper.......I mistakenly called the park Freedom Park.....it's Memorial Gardens......sorry
ODESSA- With plans moving forward to remove and euthanize 90 ducks and geese from the Memorial Gardens pond in Odessa, a wildlife group said it offered its services as an alternative to euthanization.
Lynn Cuny, founder and president of Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation said Texas Wildlife Services Director Mike Bodenchuk refused to allow the reserve to intervene – moving forward with a plan to euthanize the ducks and geese.
“He refused, said he only wanted the birds to go somewhere where they are totally confined and not interacting with wildbirds,” Cuny said, who runs an animal sanctuary in East Texas which has operated since 1977 in Kendalia, TX. Cuny said it would not be realistic to build an enclosure or net for ducks at their sanctuary.
Odessa Parks and Recreation asked Texas Wildlife Services to intervene after a huge overpopulation along with concerns about aggressive ducks and geese. The city said it spent $6,000 on cleaning so far this year—with just $1,000 budgeted for the entire year.
“I contacted Wildlife Services and I told him we were willing to drive up there to catch geese and ducks, remove them from the area and bring them to our sanctuary which we have done in other similar cases,” Cuny said. According to the organization’s website, the sanctuary is a 221 acre area which provides permanent residence to over 600 animals. Cuny said she has rescued domestic ducks and geese before.
“We’ve done this work for over 40 years,” Cuny said by phone. “It would be a nice pond. For Mr. Bodenchuk to say that he was concerned about people taking the ducks because they are aggressive is absurd. These are domesticated ducks and geese, that’s ridiculous.”
Bodenchuk also reported concerns with the chemicals in the duck’s system after they are tranquilized for capture.
“We’ve rescued ducks and geese for as long as we’ve been in existence. I have a great deal of experience. They can co-habit just fine at our sanctuary. We’ve been doing this work probably for longer than Mr. Bodechuk has been killing them,” Cuny said.
Texas State Director Michael Bodenchuk said Thursday his office is open to alternatives to euthanization—but indicated it is likely the only safe option.
“We have not yet set a date for the capture of the ducks and geese,” Bodenchuk said in an e-mail, noting they have started pre-baiting the ducks for capture. The ducks will then be euthanized.
A phone call and e-mail to Bodenchuk to ask about the claims by WRR have not been returned. A fence remains around the duck pond, and it appears ducks and geese are still there. Odessa Parks and Rec Director Steve Patton said the pond is under Texas Wildlife Services' jurisdiction.
A petition is also circulating which names city council member Dewey Bryant who oversees the area. This after two protests at the site. An e-mail to the council member has not been returned.
“To rescue ducks and geese is not difficult work, it’s easy to care for them because they are domesticated birds, their diet is not particularly complex. You give them good diet, fresh water, pull their eggs so you never have an overpopulation,” Cuny said.
you can find more information about the sanctuary at this link.

Any idea why they would be so opposed to letting the ducks and geese be rescued? The skeptic in me says there must be more to it.

sounds like the city hasn't a brain cell..but then they very rarely do have brain cells that function..good to know your jobsworths are as stupid as ours euthanization??? sheeeeesh..and a fence and transportation..madness all that is needed is proper management...take half the eggs and the problem will be halved in next to no time..take out any damaged fowl... where theres water there will be wild life...who needs a sterile pond..and transitory birds will alight on any water they come across as for ducks and geese being aggressive...yes some always will be..that is nature.. so suck it up..Swans are the most aggressive but usually you leave them alone we have had similar situations..one park pond was fenced off with a big notice do not feed the ducks...well the ducks simply flew over the fence and passing geese still alighted on the water as they had traditionally done for centuries..the pond had been in existence long before the area was turned into a park some time in the 1800 other places have simiply managed the areas in a sensible way..those giving home to wildlife and pleasing visitors

Morning!!
No one here understands the issue at the Park. People are there everyday. Suddenly they put a fence up and said it was dangerous and the ducks had to go. When people went ape#H%$. Then they said some of the ducks had been aggressive......then they said they could carry E-Coli......it's very odd......but people are not taking it well. With all the offers from other people to take the animals.....and there have been more offers......and with no real answer why they won't accept.....people are even madder!!

Sadie, you might consider posting the email address of city hall and others around the country could make their opinions known to the Mayor and City Council.
