That's really too bad. It's hard to see how that would be helpful .. even if you discount the cruelty aspect. Won't more wild birds be attracted to the pond and try to settle there?

I work on a board for the development of dog parks in the city with Steve......it's going to be very difficult for me to work with him. I just don't see how this was the answer to anything. That pond has been there forever. So many different migratory birds use it. WTF this did NO ONE has any idea.............That there were sooooo many offers from people to take the birds and they chose to just kill them.....just sickens me.

It sounds pretty awful tome. I don't think they'd do that around here. We have an animal relocation dept. that's part of the city administration. They will relocate one animal or 50, whatever it takes. They took a lot of raccoons back to the woods in the spring. It needed to be done but they wanted to take them at a time of year that would give them a chance to learn to fend for themselves. After depending on gardens and trash cans for their meals, they had to acclimatize.
Now would probably be a good time to try to get some people to run for city officials that would do a better job.

Anna, we have similar programs here. There is another approach that might work and it is used at some airports. Some of them have bird problems with the possibility of the birds flying up in front of the planes. So what some airports have done is to get two or three dogs trained to hunt birds. They turn them loose at the airport and the dogs work all day long keeping the birds stirred up and the birds reach a point where they do not like that airport and then they leave. Maybe that would work around that pond.

take heart Sadie..birds don't read or follow political directives and the wild birds will not understand they haven't to use the pond have to say on the little I know about this....the city appears to be remarkably stupid in their thinking and sctions...but there are sadly those who have no concerns for wild life who would happily see the entire land covered in concrete but I assume these people are in place via a vote ? well come the next election make sure they are ousted

Morning
Oh yes.....the City is hearing full blast what the everyone thinks of their actions..........considering all the offers from ranchers and organizations to come get the animals and their refusal to even listen.......people are outraged. No one even understands what the sudden problem was........as I said....this pond has been there for decades.......there are migratory birds that use the spot regularly.......people are there every day walking around it or just visiting.....there is a busy street next to it and people had the city put up Duck Crossing signs.....there were people protesting every day....but then the guy said they would entertain alternative ideas....the people left......then they went in at night and got them....cowardly bastards
Well....in other news....our bank robber robbed another bank the next day.......they had his picture (no mask or anything)....a picture of his car with the license plate.....and he stayed in a hotel on the same street as the police station......I kinda think he wanted to go to jail..........he was a wanted felon out of Tennessee......I don't think he even used a weapon....just walked in...handed a note to the teller that said he had a weapon......oh well.....he's happily behind bars now, I guess.
Think we will be at a balmy 105 deg. F again today......woohoo
Be happy and stay safe out there!!!

Well, we have a clean dog park ... meaning pet owners have to pick up or not use it. An attendant is usually there. It has a flowing stream so in summer the pets and owners get relief from the heat if they choose. I notice there are still quite a few who walk their dogs on the pavement, in the neighborhoods. I seldom ever find mess on the lawn, but someone a block or so down the street has put up a little sign reminding owners to clean up after their pets. I hope everyone has a nice Friday. This is my last work day until September. I'll be away for a few days vacation. Trying to pin down the exact days. Should know by the end of the weekend.
