Off to work. Back in a couple or three hours. Have a good'un. I hear you. I'm on the road this afternoon and it's in the middle of a thunderstorm right now. Glad it's Friday! By the way, I'm thinking about bringing the Music quizzes back for the weekends only, every Saturday and random Sundays.

I have finally been assigned a permanent parking spot at my complex after waiting 14 months and jockeying for a spot on the street even though my skill at parallel parking improved.

the Fete/Carnival has been cancelled...lorries vans and cars delivering the contents for stalls/margue/tents..would have got onto the green...but getting off it would possibly have needed gtreat assistance from tractors when they got stuck in the mud[we have experience of this]...plus of course it then takes forever for the land to return to normal when skids and deep groves have been gouged..its a pity as lots of people have put in great efforts...groups like ours sell to provide funds so them selves and charitites..and the children do like to dress up for the rose queen..the RQ will be held at the village school not quite the same but its some thing our group being resourceful have filled every freezer with cakes/pies to be sold at a later date...and those there was no room for were sold at local pubs last night..jams chuitneys too have all been put on one side its a gloomy dark grey morning with a nasty wind at least the well dressing boards are up we hope they will survive the weather..they have done other years

What are "well dressing boards" ? Wish I could send you some of this hot hot sunshine to dry things off. Take care.

we got some light rainfall yesterday and during the night...always welcome in California.
I have to wait until next week for parking spot so was a little disappointed but if that is the worst that can happen I'll roll with it.

well dressings...they go back to the far distant past back to the celts and beyond in ancient times people would go to the well and throw flowers on it and pray that the well never ran dry this happens all over Derbyshire where the custom seems to have continued...though many of the wells have been diverted or piped we had three in the village..the one near us fed into a huge stone trough for use of both people and horse..that was piped away during the 70s as the spill over went onto the road which then became sheet ice in the cold weather the remaining one was made into a feature some years ago..and that is the one which the well dressing service is held right so every year a theme is chosen..this year its the 100th anniversary of the cub/scouts and some thing else[icant remember] take a strong but not too heavy board any size 5x4 and bigger of course cover said board in clay..which must not be too wet or too dry..lay down said board on a table so people can get all round it...a local person who can draw does the theme/design the theme will then be etched onto the clay..and using a quick coloured drawing for a guide where which colours go.... then petals leaves an even gravel will be pressed into the clay individually to make the picture which can take 4-6or even more days days to complete.. its very time consuming and down to volunteers in each village..soo you can find people working on in relays every day ..and other people drop in for an hour of two this year our two pictures were completes in 4days..a record and were placed at the well last Friday..there will be a short blessing service this morning my friend does the designs and collects flower heads from our gardens to be used...this year because of the appalling weather some colours have been hard to get the quantity needed..so flowers to use have come from the florists have to say the results are very good..

well we made over £100 yesterday selling in the pubs and clubs in the village..[we have two pubs and the village club] tables were set up in all three for those who would have had stalls and they sold their wares..we did the cakes and jams ..woman up the road does hanging baskets..some one else was selling plants..some one else was selling cards and fripperies....so in a funny way it was a good friendly community day.. a little lighter this morning but the horrendes winds of last evening and night have died away..but grey clouds puthering up for more rain

Happy Sunday
Will be off to meet my regular group for Sunday coffee at Starbucks in a bit then I have to start baking for our Farmer's Market event next Saturday. With the new double ovens it is just amazing how quickly it goes!!! Happy happy!!
We've had storms building almost every night but just got what we laughingly call 10 inch rain! 10 inches between each drop!!
Hoping for a swim after baking so hopefully the lightening will stay away!!!
Hope all of you have a great day! Stay safe out there!!!

wet and windy and yet again grey all over so much for summer...perhaps the 7 or 8 days we have already had was the sum total for this year my garden is battered and doubt it will recover for this year..what the rain hasn't ruined the winds have...
