sometimes, in some areas, soda is a synonym for coke, and vice versa.. it doesn't matter what flavor it is. that's more prevalent in the south. i don't know what the difference would really be in tonic water. isn't that carbonated also? As I said, the United Airlines blunder indicates agreement with your meaning of "soda". We like to stick with words when there's no better alternative. "Lift" is an excellent example. of course, the largest installer of such things in the u.s. is the otis ELEVATOR company. is the one in britain a "lift" company?
