Always a fun topic for discussion... "For I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever." (Jeremiah 3:12) vs: "Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever." (Jeremiah 17:4) .............. so, which is it? We should fear God (Matthew 10:28) We should love God (Matthew 22:37) There is no fear in love (1 John 4:18)

He is a jealous god....
So which of these is right?
Order of creation
Genesis 1: Day 1: Sky, Earth, light Day 2: Water, both in ocean basins and above the sky(!) Day 3: Plants Day 4: Sun, Moon, stars (as calendrical and navigational aids) Day 5: Sea monsters (whales), fish, birds, land animals, creepy-crawlies (reptiles, insects, etc.) Day 6: Humans (apparently both sexes at the same time) Day 7: Nothing (the first day off)
Genesis 2, the Yahwist tradition: Earth and heavens (misty) Adam, the first man (on a desolate Earth) Plants Animals Eve, the first woman (from Adam's rib)

furthermore "I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy." (JER 13:14) "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling."
"The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy." (JAS 5:11) "For his mercy endureth forever." (1CH 16:34) "The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works." (PSA 145:9) "God is love." (1JO 4:16)

GAL 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
GAL 6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

Why should The bible (The Book, Heh Biblos) be any different from the collations of every other culture's scriptural legends and philosophy and myth and history? If there really is a Guiding Intelligence, why should be known only to Jews? We, after all, are not Jews and the anti-semitic wriggling that has tried to interpret scriptures aimed at and by Jews against them and for 'us' does 'us' no favours at all. Why should The Bible take precedence over the Bhagavadgita and Mahaabharata it is part of? Was 'God' such a partial racist that he spoke only to one small group of people and all other scriptures are 'of Satan'? (I must admit, that compared to Biblical 'God', I find a lot more to respect in 'Satan').

The Bible - written by ignorant ancients - is held as truth which contradicts current knowledge
The Creation Museum presents an account of the origins of the universe, life, mankind, and man's early history according to a literal reading of the Book of Genesis.
Professor Lord Robert Winston visited the site of the museum during the filming of his documentary "The Story of God" and remarked, "I admit I was dismayed by what I saw at the Ken Ham museum. It was alarming to see so much time, money and effort being spent on making a mockery of hard won scientific knowledge. And the fact that it was being done with such obvious sincerity, somehow made it all the worse."

The 84,000,000 species of creature were created through the 84,000,000 positions of sexual intercourse between Shiva and His Shakti Parvati, daughter of the Himalaya. All those extra arms no doubt have a lot to do with extending the possibilities! I want a Hindu Fundamentalist Creationist Museum showing us all of those positions of intercourse (or at least a substantial proportion). It might give some ideas!

But, how can that be?
The bible is the 'true word of god' I was always told.
Evidently, god is a wee bit bipolar.

Every man sins. Yes. “There is no man who does not sin” (I Kings 8:46; Proverbs 20:9; I John 1:810)
AND...
No. “No one born of God commits sin; for God’s nature abides in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God” (I John 3:9).
AND...... Yes! “If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (I John 1:8)

So? If you put Shakespeare's works together would yuo be surpirzed to find that some parts contradict others?

So? If you put Shakespeare's works together would yuo be surpirzed to find that some parts contradict others? Not at all... Shakespeare's works are not purported as 'truth' nor as coming from God himself.

Neither outside of a few fundamentalists sects is the bible. There is not even one bible. Protestants and Anglicans use a different original OT from older churches with a lot of books taken out, Copts include books nobody else does and in its history, several books have been removed from the NT, notably Letters of Clement and Revelation/Apocalypse the last to be added.
You should take St. Paul's advice that "Whatsoever speaks of the god of Christ and of love is of God and whatsoever does not is of Man" (or words to that effect)
