@beth. "The Black Death was a pandemic."" What is really interesting regarding the Black Death is that mass burials in pits was adopted and although the pits location was rarely recorded the pits can be found quite simply by visual means, if you see a mass of nettles in an otherwise normal field the nettles are a sign of increased nutrition and it is usually rotting bodies providing the nutrition. In some parts of Britain it is strictly forbidden to excavate the so-called ,'plague pits', due to fears the Plague spores still being acrive.

Toby, be thankful for having a decent doctor. Shingles is one of the most painful afflictions you'll ever have. I've had it twice, the first time in the back just below the left shoulder blade. I told my (then) husband I had to go to ER. He said he'd see me when I got back … he was busy doing something on the computer. I told him the pain was too great and he'd have to drive. From that point on he was pretty nice about the whole thing. The pain took more than 2 days to subside.
The second time was years later. It hit in my lower back. This time I knew what it was and took myself to Urgent Care where they assigned me to a female doctor from Eqypt. I told her it was shingles and I'd had it before. She didn't agree … told me I had some kind of parasite. I asked the nurse if I could please see another doctor. After almost an hours wait (on Saturday) one of the regular doctors came in and asked me what he could do. I told him I had shingles, etc etc etc etc … he looked and immediately agreed. Gave me a shot and pain meds and I was better on the 2nd day.
I think there's an immunization you can get so this won't come back.
Good for you that you had a good doctor.
Best wishes for your fast recovery.

Are you against trying to find a cure? That last virus that was "cured" was smallpox, and that took centuries. Viruses are part of life, and life has to go on. Shutting down the economy of an entire country is worse than the disease it's trying to prevent. These decisions should not be left in the hands of epidemiologists, who don't care about the social costs of their decisions.

Trump says things will start improving in 15 days. Do you agree?

We went to our local supermarket this morning and it looked like locusts had been there, loads of fat-bottomed Women frantically loading multiple trollys. Now it's a bit warmer the tights are being worn but they seem to be last years, well worn and washed tights so they have become see-through, I wonder if these Women know their derrieres are on view to all ? I am suffering, I thought I had an eye infection but Doctor said it was shingles so antibiotics and drops plus cream to smear. Apparantly it strikes the elderly, maybe I should have got vaccinnated. I was in my mid twenties and again in my late 30s when this hit me. I often wonder whether I have a very good immune system. Go ahead and get the immunization. If you have it once, you're a sitting duck to get it again.

Unless you think of Trump and his suck=ups as Democrats, you're off track. They were show on the up take but now they are the loudest voices for tight regulations until this pandemic is over. Keep up! The best thing to do right now is see that your family is taken care of. Trust me, most of the Doctors take it seriously. South Korea, which is testing for this virus 10,000 times a day, reports a mortality rate of 0.6 percent among the infected. That's SIX per THOUSAND. The virus is LESS of a problem than H1N1 was, but Democrats insist on throwing millions of people out of work and tanking the economy. Joseph, I read an article that said the S.K. figures were so low because of poor reporting and recording. In our country, some states are coming in with inaccurate figures (like W. Va., reporting no cases), because their method for compiling the information is off kilter. Consider that before you shrug off a very serious situation.

@beth ""Best wishes for your fast recovery."" Thanks Beth !! Thanks Mouse !!
I read that you have to wait a full year before getting Immunized so the body's immune system recovers, the pain is bearable but my eye looks like I have been fighting !!

Here's a tip. Go to your local market and buy a nice blueberry pie at the bakery. Then, stop by fresh fruits and buy cartons of blueberries and strawberries. Great for the immune system and delicious, too.

So what's happening today?
Madness at the shops and very long queues - just like old times in Eastern Europe. Even the magazine racks were pillaged.
Up to 40 London Underground stations to shut from today
10,000 troops on standby, with plans to run hotels as hospitals and man roadblocks The new Covid Support Force could be doubled if required
Schools closed and London facing lockdown as coronavirus cases surge

Everybody's moving about freely here except we've decided to leave off eating in restaurants for the time being.
None of us know anyone who has Coronavirus, but we're avoiding movie theaters and other places where crowds gather. Common sense.
It's rainy and warm, but forecast to go back to cool temps for the weekend.

Consider that before you shrug off a very serious situation. I track known cases and deaths from those cases, and in California the mortality rate is an extremely low 2 percent. Since the mortality rate will always be above zero -- as it is for any virus -- how low does it have to go before we allow people to live again? There are idiots out there who would throw millions of people out of work, like my own relatives, to save a human life. Are you one of those idiots?

Joseph, I have to think you are in a spin because the state of California has been put on lock down.
What if that human life saved was one of your family? Would it no longer seem important?
