Don't you enjoy Thanksgiving? I think it's a wonderful holiday. It was the only time we ever used the full dining room for a family meal ... both buffets laden. Of course we all pitched in for the clean up, but the meal and the companionship were worth it. Now, we take turns and are more casual. This year, my brother and his family will be hosting. I'm taking a pie. :)

I'm taking a pie. When I was a kid, our parents always gave my brother and I one of our Xmas gifts on Thanksgiving. It was almost always a game. Good move on their part. We and any visiting cousins got to set up the games and have something to do after dinner, while the grownups talked.

Beth wrote.. don't you enjoy thanks giving"""""actually it has never cropped up in my life before.. its not some thing we do or celebrate... and I turned it down because it really isn't my thing inso far that the young man I have known from birth is loud and pompous and inspite of all his mothers efforts is a bit of an oaf ….and on a cold damp dank November night do I want to go out and spend time being polite while balancing a plate of food … nah... there was talk if we had left the eu at the end of October about making it a thanksgiving for escaping the clutches of the eu.. but it didn't happen this morning is horrible damp and dark.... eurgghgh

Our Thanksgiving has mostly to do with tradition, the 'harvest home' holiday to rest from the labors of planting, growing and harvesting .. if you're a farmer. Or of appreciation for those who help our food and comfort. Extra effort is made to feed the poor and homeless, and we show gratitude and appreciation with an especially bountiful meal with family and friends ... or any variation that suits. Norman Rockwell's rendition of tradition. :)

beth… we would call that a harvest supper and it would happen in late Sepyember/October some thing which has largely died out except in the most rural parts and some of the churches still have Harvest sunday services and it would be a group ie village/church thing rather than individual families[our family time is Christmas when they come from near and far .. and then its a sit down dinner with all the trimmings .. crazy hats.. crackers.. table games..and enough food and drink to fill an army.... in our village its our womens group that puts on a supper at the village hall .. meat and potato pie or cheese and onion pie.. with lots of pickled red cabbage or Beetroot on the side apple pie to follow...the food is given out during the midway break of our annual Quizz.. every harvest supper quiz/dance /supper etc supper I have ever been too.... its always been meat and tato or cheese and onion.. or just a cheese board with home made bread..followed by apple pie English custart or cream
misty and murky this morning not very cold at all.. the mist/fog/low cloud has kept the low temps down... freezing fog forcast for this coming week though
I see some one has updated the Rockwell via phone cameras

Sounds nice, mouse. Kinda like the suppers some of our churches give around harvest/Thanksgiving time. They try to see that nobody gets left out.

Ha! I didn't notice the phones until you mentioned it. :) Verrrrrry amusing.

lol I love the phones!
We are going to spend Thanksgiving into the next day at the farm. So far, we expect to have 9 for the main meal and 2 of those will spend the night. Almost everyone will contribute to the feast and it will be traditional.
Both butterball turkey and spiral cut honey ham because everyone has a preference.
We are looking forward to a nice holiday.
The same to you all.

I hope you have a good day mouse, and everybody.
It's warmer today, into the high 50s. This afternoon's the time to go buy a frozen turkey so it can be thawing in the fridge.

Well, kit's mild and sunny here with people out and about, getting ready for the long weekend.
We used to spend the weekend after Thanksgiving holding championship Talisman games, but things change and now my sister and I are considering hitting one or two stores for Black Friday. So much more grown-up. Of course, adulthood was never one my personal ambitions ... but time flies.
Right now, I'm trying to decide what kind of pie ... pecan or pumpkin.
Have a good'un
