a bright morning now clouding over...cold but not bitter... so much flooding around over 40 areas....now the army has been drafted in in some areas including south Yorkshire and parts of Derbyshire ….still if county councils go for finance over common sense...and do not dredge rivers.. builds on soakaways and flood plains ...destroy streams that feed rivers etc....then floods will follow certainly the rivers and streams near us are are raging torronts but so far nothing has burst their banks …...and the reservoir at Whalley[which was on the point of bursting some weeks ago... is taking this new amounts of water very well with no problems so far

It's been cold here. We made beef stew and an apple pie and then kicked back and watched TV all day. Lazy but tomorrow will be busy.

beautiful sunshine after a bitter freezing night with a sky as blue as any sky in the med can be... the deep frost taking an age to be burnt off its this sort of day I used to love getting into the hills and walk for a few hours...

I didn't know you were a walker, mouse. I used to do that a lot, too, before I hurt my knee ... but on sidewalks instead of into the wild. Now I go to physical therapy twice a week and walk short strolls when I can.
Have you read Bill Bryson's books about his walking adventures? I've read 3. His latest has him walking through the human body, and I can't get to excited about that.
The singer, Art Garfunkel is another walker. Walked throughout Japan ... started without knowing the language or the customs but loved the experience.
Cold here this a.m. but not cold enough for snow.

the Pennine way.. is a route along what is known as the spine of England along the tops of a range of hills. starts a couple of miles down from us and carries on,, and on and on.....and finnishes at a pub....

I do miss the walking ... a lot. I can still do a 3 block or so jaunt now and then but need to have somebody else along, just in case. I'm not going to complain about the PT. It keeps me limber and I've met some nice people in the classes. Some of them have problems far worse than mine. One guy is waiting for a heart transplant, meanwhile trying to find a good "Seniors" living arrangement for his parents in case they outlive him. Another interesting person is an older lady who has a collection of hats and wears a different one to exercise class each time. She swears by a glass of whiskey each night before bedtime. Her doctor is not in favor of this, but she believes it will help her live a long life. (arrrghP) Most of them are in worse shape than I am, but they very kindly put up with me as the new "kid". lol

Extreme heat is bad as well. I seem to remember Bryson and his ilk walked in all sorts of weather conditions with few complaints. I do not have that kind of stamina.

walking on th peaks near us you could get all four seasons in a day.. quite dangerous too and easily lost in the moor fogs thart come in a blink of an eye... but wrapped up well in the right gear nothing better........ wish I could still do it instead of just getting to the car and the from car to door....still even restrictions are better than the alternatives another bitterly cold night giving way to a bright sunny morning.....am confined to the sitting oom room as a man has come to put on a front door... seems like an orchid I haent to get chilled.......the one we had wasn't fastening properly or closing properly either..... its amazing how many people speak well of a glass of whiskey a day.....one of the things my friend with the C misses is her evening whiskey....still as she says.. only four years to go till she gets a clean bill of health and stops taking the awful medication
