and it rained and rained,, so much so in a town we know well the entire population of the lower parts of the town was evacuated as the resavoir main banking became unstable and it was feared would collapse and the waters would decend and destroy every thing in its path.. they were pumping out waters into a near by river but as fast as they pumped water out the rain and nearby hills were re filling it appears to have held over night but some damage to the overflow areas.. the population wont be allowed back until its safe....
sunshine this morning and we are going off to lunch with grandson....

the worlds press seem to have descended some miles away in the hope or not that the dam will breach and tottornts of water will cascade down and then through the valley taking all before iter the danger is not over yet and still water is being piped away into the river.. overflowing the banks a little but not causing too much damage
and other sunny day has dawned.... so sitting in the rather soggy garden becons

more rain expected today/night... the dams level of water is very slowly reducing but if it collapsed even now huge damage would be caused,, some have tried to play politics and blame austerity or government cuts.. neither is true ans the funding for dams etc comes out of a different pot and there are stringent checks on such infrastructure.. this has just been a mix of circumstances and soil types...... non the less work is still going on round the clock
meanwhile in the grounds of a stately home ..the one where Mr Darcy played by Colin Firth comes out of the water with his shirt plastered to his manly chest .. the lake he swam in breached its banks and washed away much of a 4hundred year old garden ..
sunny but overcast at times....

the latest on the dam is nothing has happened over night... and still water is being pumped into the river which is now a torrent and as high as any one has seen it.. as it winds its way through the various areas.. wide vales and high stone chasms and yet more vales miles and miles of it .. still no lives lost and no one to blame even though some eegits are trying to blame the government [it has nothing to do with government ] its rained during the night.. but yet again here we missed the storms and thunder etc and now the sun is shining once more

thanks for that Fret...really interesting.... what is also interesting is that we here haven't had any LOCAL flooding except down in the dip where the road bridges a local stream... in really bad weather of rain we get the water cascading over the coombs which then rushes down hill flooding the cricket field and then rushing down to us.. the only thing we have to do is go out and make sure the waters collected debri hasn't blocked the drains
still no one allowed back in.. although chances are they will be allowed home to day all being well...…. a big well done to all concerned who did a great job in a small time
sunshine and daughter has gone off to buy me a lap top.. soon my table top will be no more

I don't know if there are PB problems or what but I have been trying to connect for about 2 hours off and on.
Looks like it's been slow here so maybe it's not just me.
it's been a real nice day here. Not too hot or too cool, just right.
I hope everybody's having a good weeikend.
