I once thought that trying to be come proficient in the use of the language was a common goal, but I guess young people have different goals. We recently have had a younger stray cat show up at our door. It seems to be a nice cat and we have thought that if we cannot find an owner we might adopt it. Now we discover that it is pregnant.

Mouse, I sympathize. I don't care much for lap tops either
I'm leaving tonight for a short vacation with the family right before school starts again. Should be back Monday or Tuesday.

Give her a warm, safe place to sleep and she can take care of the litter herself if she's fed regularly. Then, when the kittens are ready to move away from the mom, put an ad for adoption on Craig's list and in your local paper. They'll soon be gone. Then, ahem, have her spayed.

Thanks for the suggestions.
We have worked with the local humane Society for over 30 years and I have been on its board of directors as well as acting as Operational Director between finding new directors. We took her to the Humane Society to be checked to see if she has an identification chip (she didn’t).
The point about her being pregnant is that our community, like most, have more than enough cats. We now will take her to a Vet to check on her health. Cats running loose are likely to get Feline Leukemia. That is a horrible disease and not a pleasant way to die. It is more common in feral cats.
One problem with cats is that some people believe that they should be allowed to freely roam, and that is not true. However, once they have become feral, that is without a home, they become part of the environment, competing with local wild animals. Neither domesticated cats nor dogs should be allowed to roam.
At any given time, there are 30 to 40 cats available for adoption at the local humane society, and more dogs. Feral cats will (at times) live in a loose group. When that happens, the local population (of cats) will sometimes explode in numbers. Most of these cats have only lived in feral environments and become wild. Since they have already developed a place in the local environment, they are caught, checked for health, inoculated and spay or neutered. For identification from a distance, one ear is notched, and then released back where they were caught.
By the way, there is not enough possible adopters for kittens and puppies. I once did a study for the local humane society to estimate the result of they becoming a no-kill facility. At the end of 10 years they would be holding more that 8,000 animals.

Today was my daughter's first day of school. I was as anxious as she was excited. Turns out she likes her teacher and has a couple of friends in her class so it appears all is well.

Men an tol, one of my sisters always had cats until she married a guy who is allergic to them. They have a couple of dogs, but she still has the soft spot for cats.
During the coldest parts of the winter, she buys bags of dry cat food and empties them in a wooded area behind a shopping center where she knows feral cats live. There's a group in this part of the state that picks up some every month and has them neutered, then puts them back in the general area where they found them. Not sure there's any good answer.

have fun, Dex. This is a good time to go. It won't be as crowded and in June and July.
Annie, the best you can hope for is a good teacher, the rest is frills.

another gloomy cold morning with the promise of torrential rain later.....will our corner pf the country continue to avoid floods.?... all things crossed... It's warm and sunny here with a few puffy white clouds in a blue sky. The forecast is low 60s to low 80s F. If this keeps up, August could turn into my favorite month.

Enjoy the two weeks, mouse and try not to get too attached to Jakey or you'll hate to see him leave.
I'm off to take daughter and her friend to the park to play for an hour or so.
I may be back after while.
