Young went on to say that, while Google might have changed mottoes in recent years, the song remains the same in terms of artist compensation. “‘Don’t be evil.’ That was Google’s corporate motto as they directed users to pirate sites to get artist’s creations and not pay!! Amazing tech breakthrough!! Meanwhile, they reap the bucks from ads people read while listening to music made my artists,” Young wrote. “Google just changed their motto from ‘Do the Right Thing,’ but haven’t changed anything else as they continue to rip off the artist community, building their wealth on music’s back and paying nothing to the artists,” Young continued. “WOW! Brilliant tech breakthrough! BTW, Google is YouTube. Guess who’s next?” As far as Neil Young is concerned, Google has anything but a heart of gold when it comes to compensating artists. “Harvest” musician Young vented at Google and other tech companies in a post published by Neil Young Archives on Friday, accusing them of “building their wealth on music’s back and paying nothing to the artists.” “Today, in the age of Facebook, Google and Amazon, it’s hard to tell how a new and growing musical artist could make it in the way we did,” Young wrote. “The Tech Giants have figured out a way to use all the great music of everyone from all time, without reporting an artist’s number of plays or paying a f—king cent to the musicians. Aren’t they great companies!!! It makes you wonder where the next generation of artists will come from. How will they survive?” www.thewrap.com/neil-young-epic-vent-about-google/amp/

Maybe he should try writing some better songs.
He has not had a hit record for 20 years.
He sounds very greedy.

I wonder if Kronks spends a lot of time alone.
Young is right but it's not news. Napster sounded the alarm of the future.

I guess it does seem like a cheat, but remember, the exposure the artists get is valuable.

NO empathy for millionaires complaining people will not buy their crap songs no. If he is short of cash he can go down town and get his begging bowl out like anyone else. It is not as if he is living on the breadline, he is a very well off person being greedy.

He has a net worth of $65 million why should I have an sympathy for a greedy pig? Ed Sheeran is not complaining. Nor is Adele who is worth £50 million. I've plenty of empathy for those who deserve it, poor people who are truly needy. If he had a heart of gold he would be giving his songs away, instead his pocket are stuffed with gold. Bit bit of a hypocrite isn't he?

People have always copied music since the days of the cassette recorder anyway.
It is not the young musicians who are complaining, it is the old ones who expect people to buy songs 40 years old.

When you argue with yourself it's highly entertaining.

Bit bit of a hypocrite isn't he? He's an old dude now, Kronks, and he's an icon in America. A lot of his songs are folk rock classics and covered by other people. He's done his share and more. What have you done over the past 40 years? Show some respect.

Well he can say what he like, does not mean I agree with him, it is probably easier than ever to get started in the music industry. Folk would never buy have the stuff they get on pirated sites in the first place.

And lets face it technology has had it's effect on a lot of professions, musician have probably faired better than most.
It is not as if he is a coal miner, or from numerous other industries where all the jobs have disappeared!
