I recently stated that I - an Englishman in my capital city - am an ethnic minority...
London’s Cockney culture is being driven out of one of its last remaining bastions, Newham in East London, which has seen its white population halved in the last 15 years. The area now has the lowest white population in London. The area was once characterised by its white working class population, mostly cockneys who moved in during the 1800s as dockworkers during an era of unprecedented global trade. But now ethnic minorities make up 76 percent of the borough’s population, making it the most multicultural place in Britain. “People who haven’t been for many years come out of Upton Park Station and say: ‘I can’t believe what’s happened here, it could be Baghdad,’” says Peter Bell manager of the East Ham Working Men’s Club. His customers agree. “It’s hard to find somebody who speaks English in Newham,” one says. “We’ve always been a country where immigration plays a part, but not on the scale you find now. “You go from Aldgate to Barking and there is very few English people left.” Drew Primary in the Docklands area now only has three white children per class. Australian head teacher Emma Peltier is proud of the school’s multiculturalism, telling documentary makers: “We no longer live in a mono-cultural society, we have 43 languages spoken and at least once a week we have a child arrive who has no English. “Schools and children can be a fantastic way of people assimilating into society because children don’t see colour and children don’t see religion.” But the children are unlikely to see any religion other than Islam outside of school. Last Whites Of The East End will be shown on BBC1 at 10.45pm on Tuesday, May 24. www.breitbart.com/london/2016/05/14/londons-east-end-like-baghdad-causing-death-cockney-culture/

we have 43 languages spoken how any moron can see 43 languages being spoken as a good thing in one school is off their rocker I don't think she means that they use 43 languages in the school. With pupils from many places, probably 43 mother tongues could be heard, but English will still be the working language in her school. That's my take on it.

yes I understand that...but it means that in real terms a good % of parents will have some difficulty with really understanding English and English norms..its a very severe problem

Have just arrived from overseas or are they second or third generation? It's not unusual for ethnic minorities to be bilingual.

I think it was Fret who said ethmic minorities make up 76% of the bourough... yes its an assumption which is why I put it as a % who would have problems with spoken/written and English norms....and it women the mothers/Grandmothers etc etc who are usually non able in some groups more than others....and this causes problems within family groups and certainly in education in regards to communications... several studies have been made on the subject of non English spearkers and its effect long tern on both education and families I will see if I can find a link later this morning..although I may forget

Just because the kids can't speak English on day one, we shouldn't assume that their parents are not highly-skilled and don't have good language skills. If their parents are well-educated, it's not unreasonable to think that they'll support their kids' education. The kids will no doubt fail educationally when they're not supported by their parents. It's their parents' attitude that can make or break their success. They know that the working language in the school is English. If they don't think it's important then there's nothing the school can do. You can't lay the blame at the school's door for poor exam results. The article seems like another cheap shot at immigrants to stoke up some anti-foreigner feelings. It's telling that there's a quote "it's like Baghdad". A quick Google search tells me it's unlikely that there are many Iraqis in Newham. Poor old east London, no longer "white" English.

They are assuming but so are you, Shades. They are guessing it's all mostly bad and you are guessing it's all good but the press is not fair. The truth is most likely somewhere i nbetween. But, look at it this way. They are THERE and you are guessing from a distance.

That's from my experiences at the school gate, not from hearsay. And also, you've no idea where I'm from or where I am today

Funny that. When that school fails and it will the cheap shot will have been aimed at the kids whose education suffered for it. When resources are diverted to support unalphabets and non English speakers it's at the expense of those who do speak English. That's the fault of the loony ideas you put forward. I don't expect you to fess up to that, it's always someone else's fault. In Newham you find Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. And that's all.

Poor old east London, no longer "white" English. we don't need to make cheap shots at immigrants....the real stories based on facts are enough to tell the storys without ANY cheap shots..and when truth is seen as cheap shots then there really is a big big problem Europe has a huge huge problem and it gets worse with every influx....there a great concerns in every country...their parents being skilled is no bases because so often those skills are not transferable into the countries they have landed in... and you must be aware of the lies and the agendas of people not being who they say they are the German government so worried and fearful put a ban on media reporting..and over new year there were the lies and false reportings and denial of facts right around Europe..and the orders came from the top we are not in a good place right now...and its not going to improve any time soon 90% OF LAST YEARS MIGRANTS WERE YOUNG SINGLE MALES..not Syrians and not threatened and certainly not refugees..chancers and blaggers who should have been sent back from where they came..

mouse The article itself says that "The area now has the lowest white population in London." and is emphasising the decline in white faces. Every article I've read from that website seems to be anti-those not from the UK, and especially those who are not white. Seems like outright racism to me.
