Can you tell what it is yet, kids? Heh heh - yes, that's right: it's an inevitable custodial sentence... www.talktalk.co.uk/news/showbiz/article/rolf-harris-guilty-of-sex-attacks/135180/Can't believe the Rolf Harris case hasn't a thread already, or any mention on any of the other Yewtree threads - at least, as far as the search function has it. Apologies if this is yet another thread on a topic that has several already. As you may have noticed I'm not averse to resurrecting old threads to update the story rather than starting whole new ones to thrash the same topic to death again and again!

Temps, there should be at least one other thread on this, but it could be a thread that mentions several different celebs in similar context. This new one's fine because not much has been said lately.

I'm going to bring this in under fair use as an example of excellent reporting and writing of celebrity scandal ... with the direct link, that should be okay. _______________________________ eteran entertainer Rolf Harris saw his decades in the spotlight end in disgrace today as he was found guilty of a string of indecent assaults. The 84-year-old, once a much-loved artist and musician, was unanimously convicted at Southwark Crown Court of 12 sex charges involving four women, most while they were underage. His army of supporters, including suited security guards and representatives from PR giant Bell Pottinger who attended every day of the eight-week trial, could do nothing to change the verdict of the jury of six men and six women, who had deliberated for eight days. Once seen by a UK audience as a national treasure, Harris had enjoyed years of success, netting him a multi-million pound fortune and the chance to paint the Queen. But the downfall of an entertainer who was part of millions of British childhoods came today, as Harris became the biggest scalp claimed by detectives from high profile sex crime investigation Operation Yewtree, their second conviction after PR guru Max Clifford. Dozens more alleged victims have come forward during the trial, including several in Australia, and Scotland Yard has been in touch with their counterparts in the Australian police, but it is not yet clear whether they are pursuing any investigation in Harris's home country. The NSPCC said it has received 28 calls relating to Harris to date, involving 13 people who claim they fell prey to the performer. Harris, who will be stripped of his BAFTA in the wake of his conviction and could face losing his prestigious CBE, remained impassive as the forewoman delivered the damning verdicts. He was convicted of groping one woman when she was seven or eight, another two as teenagers and a catalogue of abuse against his daughter's then best friend. During the trial, the court also heard from six other women who claim they were groped by Harris while abroad. His daughter Bindi held hands with a fellow supporter, and wife Alwen and niece Jenny also watched from the public gallery as his fate was sealed. Bindi was later seen crying in a waiting area outside the court, embracing her father's publicist. The performer was released on bail until Friday when he will be sentenced and could face jail. Mr Justice Sweeney warned the octogenarian: "In reality given the conviction on all 12 counts it is inevitable that the type of sentence that is uppermost in the court's mind is a custodial sentence and he must understand that." After the verdicts, Harris walked slowly away from the building, with an emotional Alwen and Bindi by his side. /snip www.talktalk.co.uk/news/showbiz/article/rolf-harris-guilty-of-sex-attacks/135180/

There's a lady who's sure he won't touch her no more As he's climbing a stairway to prison... That's actually a pretty hefty sentence for an old dude who's lived a celebrity life style. He may not survive it.

I know he has been mentioned before but I think it was along side all the others..saville..hall etc when names were coming thick and fast the fact he appears to have been friendly with saville is just nauseating and leaves questions..as to if there was more to be found out does any one care he may not survive prison? ?...he is a perv and we have so many one less has to be a good thing... I notice his paintings have reduced in price...how utterly stupid is that....either they are good painings and worth the price or the price was falsly up because of celebrity..actually its a good time to buy them..as they are good paintings and those paintings in private hands will not benefit harris via any sale I couldn't stand his singing too mushy by far....

He may not survive it. I'll be surprised if he does more than 2 years, and I would guess he'll do the majority of it in an open prison

I can't imagine anyone giving much concern (care) to what happens to him now, except possibly his wife. Then again, she may be glad to be rid of him for awhile.

Like those here for white collar crimes called "country club prisons"?

I don't know about those, beth An open prison is a penal establishment in which the prisoners are trusted to serve their sentences with minimal supervision and perimeter security and are not locked up in prison cells. Prisoners may be permitted to take up employment while serving their sentence.
