I've seen birds here near the south coast mouse. Lots of sparrows, rooks and crows, magpies - never a shortage of those birds. Don't know what they are eating though because they ignore the food on the bird table. I saw a robin this morning having a look but he didn't partake!
Where are all the blue tits though?

I had four blue tits yesterday at the feeder...have only seen one magpie flying past and he hasn't landed..we have plenty of jackdaws as we are on their flight run morning and evening .......and of the two collards doves..one got eaten last week[saw the remains] and no signs of wagtailes so I and others really don't know what is going on... the owls too espcially the one who would come every evening seem to have disappeared after its favourite tree was cut down so I really miss its whooing and the others who answered its call don't hear the foxes barking at night either and should do at this time of year I really miss them all....all very disconcerting

Hey Jumbo It's totally clear right now. Cold as whiz but not a speck of ice or snow on the roads. we didn't have it bad right here, yesterday. the ice hanging from the treess didn't melt though, since it only got up to 30. overnight, we got more ice. here where we are, we have power, but thirty miles away, north and west, several thousand folks don't. i just went outside to take pictures and video, and while i was out there, a line came down in the yard. i have no idea what it is, since we still have power and cable. there were about three inch icicles about every two inches down the line. i wouldn't think that would be enough to bring a line down. i suppose i should call somebody just to find out what that line is to actually, you were supposed to get it worse than us. kentucky got it pretty good, and you're north of there. i'd say you lucked out

I do not live very far from Dex's area and we have had snow all morning, a steady pouring down off and on. I would judge we have over 3 inches now. The temperature is 35 so it is now more like sleet. Not a good day for going out. I will have to later but for now we are staying in.
You are addicted to that background noise, Jumbo. My husband used to be. If he woke up he would need the TV turned back on to get back to sleep. Now, we use a fan and sometimes a white sound machine and the both of us sleep better.

Birdsong silenced as breeds vanished: Native species disappear following destruction of their habitats Experts say native bird populations are plummeting at 'alarming rate' Research shows many species vanished from areas of UK Routine destruction of their habitats has been blamed for the decline The soft chorus of birdsong was once a familiar part of any ramble in the British countryside. But according to experts, the sound could soon become all but a distant memory – with native populations plummeting at an ‘alarming’ rate. Research conducted over the course of the past few years shows that many species have simply vanished from parts of Britain, thanks to routine destruction of their habitats. Native populations of birds are plummeting at an 'alarming' rate and turtle doves have fallen by 95 per cent since 1995 The latest State of the UK’s Birds report revealed that several of the country’s top breeding birds have declined by more than one third since 1995 – with festive favourite the turtle dove falling by 95 per cent. Does anyone know what habitats they are referencing? Are trees being cut down or green areas cleared out for shopping center construction or what exactly do they mean?
It is very cold today. The sun is trying to break through clouds but cannot make it yet. This whole week is one cold day after another.

It could be because these newspapers have decided to require a membership fee and withhold comment privileges for registered members.
If you are registered and a member in good standing, they may have given you a time out for a particular comment. They usually let you know the reason. Take a closer look at the pop-ups they are sending you.
