it was one of those things,,exciting and scary all at the same time...our front door got blown right down the hall and embedded in the dinning room door..and street lighting just wasnt there...so you looked forward to a moon lit night even though you knew it was a bombers moon and the planes would be over we always knew whose planes were overhead they had different sounds but sirens give me the creeps to this very day

I can imagine that would be unforgettable - just the historical significance ... but to be personally involved must have been very traumatic. I think the people of the world admire you guys a great deal for your spirit of survival and determination to endure.

I think the people of the world admire you guys a great deal for your spirit of survival and determination to endure. there wasnt an option but to survive..the same for my german friend..... all the men except grandfather and my great uncle were in the forces,,the older ones had already done a stint in ww1 and the younger ones were in all branches of the armed services including some of the women the navy.. airforce.....fleet air arm..army....chindits and what excitment there was when one of them came on leave.. i have a letter from my great aunt who wrote to my mother when invasion seemed imminent asking us to stay with them in the country ..mother turned the offer down on the grounds that it would be wrong not to stay and face up to what ever had to be faced up to..be it starvation or execution. "" as the whole country couldnt just up sticks and run away"" lol i cant see anyone taking that line to day
