What makes you angry, and where does your anger come from?

What makes you angry, and where does your anger come from? luckily i dont do that sort of anger[skrewing face and finger pointing] and dont often actually lose my temper..when i do i just demolish every thing in my way verbally and physically....i prefer to be ice cold and in control of my self...and make every word count....but it takes an awful lot to make me really angry and where does your anger come from...i am told i have my fathers temper as did my siblings...

Cruelty and meanness make me angry but it tends (as mouse says) to be a cold anger. If I spit and hiss, it will soon be over. Watch out if things go very quiet.
Sometimes, I'll have a short spell of feeling sorry for myself and it ends when I become angry with "me"!!
I do, occasionally, hold a grudge, but there has to be serious provocation.

Any more these days, I just don't get "angry". I've found a sure-fire method of eliminating anger altogether, and all it requires is a cordless drill with a 1/8" drill bit, a length of steel rod or thick wire (a wire coat hangar works well), a disposable lighter, a mirror, a steady hand, and (optionally) either a few pain pills or a lot of scotch. Just set up the mirror so that you can see and focus on the area of your forehead just above your left eye. Mark a spot exactly 1/3 of the way from the center of the bridge of your nose and the outside corner of your eye, about a quarter of an inch above the top of your eyebrow, and start drilling. Make sure you only drill in about an inch. Any more, and you'll end up like my brother; drooling on the carpet, and barking like a seal. It's NOT pretty, so BE CAREFUL!Anyway, once the hole is drilled, take the lighter and heat the end of the wire until it begins to glow, then shove the wire into the freshly drilled hole (again, be careful not to go any deeper than an inch or so) and move it around in a circular pattern for 15 seconds. This part of the process will probably hurt a bit, so this is where the pain pills and/or scotch will be rather useful. Once you've completed the procedure, simply remove the wire from the hole in your head, wad up a small piece of bathroom tissue and jam it into the hole to prevent things from oozing out of the hole, and rest and relax while the seizures take over (they SHOULD subside in a few days). After that, no more anger! Cool, yes?

For me, it's cruelty, especially cruelty to animals. But, bullying is probably my biggest pet peeve, no doubt because of being bullied in school. That, coupled with a stepfather who forbid me to get into fights at school made for a difficult childhood. I only got into a few fights, but they were always with bullies. There's something satisfying about beating a bully until he's curled up on the ground in the fetal position as all of his friends watch.

Lots of things make me angry - unfairness, arrogance, intolerance, patronising, selfishness but most of all cruelty.

Lin, if "unfairness" angers you, you must spend a lot of valuable time being angry. Life is not fair. There is NO utopia. No good deed goes unpunished. Words to live by .

Watch out if things go very quiet. me too...spit and hiss and its nothing and over quickly.....my tag of mouse comes from herr doktor mouse calling me ""the mouse that roared""in regard to my temper if i was really really angry but am not sure if we are all talking about the same thing theres quick getting cross...over as fast as its begun theres tempory anger...deeper than getting cross theres frustration temper..about things one cannot alter or make better theres deep trembling anger......in which every part of you is beyond reason and then theres absolute rage....where one could kill or destroy and theres the cold burn which lasts and wants revenge i have in my time experienced all of those moments cannot remember who said that ""a real man governs his temper rather than allowing his temper to govern him""...or words to that effect

Like many here, cruelty, oppression, bullying, and the like anger me. And while yes, life is unfair, that word can be synonymous with cruelty, oppression, and bullying because they are the very definition of what is not fair.
So it stands to reason that general unfairness can raise anyone's ire.
The only anger these days that spurs me to immediate action, though, is pain.
I have a neurological condition that can cause extreme pain for extended periods of time. Even heavy duty pain meds can't cut through it most of the time, so when it decides to get bad, it's bad, and it stays bad until it decides when its good and ready to stop.
If it goes on too long, I end up flying into a pain-induced rage that borders on temporary insanity. I have warned people to just stay away from me ... as I stay away from them ... when I lose it like that. They can't help me, so there is no use in trying to comfort me or bother me when I'm in that kind of pain, and being around me runs the risk of them becoming the object of my anger.

Beth, I was making a general observation rather than any kind of specific point. Life is unfair? I'm not so sure; on the whole I've found most people ARE decent and DO behave fairly. No Utopia? Sure, but that's not important. We just have to do the best we can and that's all anyone can reasonably ask. I guess the last but one sentence is a wind-up, right? On a personal level I spend most of my time being happy but of course when something happens then I get angry. I don't think I'm anything unusual in that respect! But I always TRY to be fair even though sometimes it's not easy!

Lin, the unfairness of life doesn't necessarily have to do with whether or not YOU or others are always fair. It often has to do with situation and circumstances. I find I have a lot of that to contend with from time to time. Sometimes it makes me mad and other times it makes me sad. Now and then I get so tired of shrugging and tossing out que sera and se la vie I stand on the edge of becoming discouraged. But, that's no help at all, so I look for alternate ways to deal with various things. "No good deed goes unpunished" is one of Gore Vidal's wonderful quotes ... and turns out to be true an amazing amount of the time.
