Fair or not, them's the rules.
What is definitely NOT fair are the kids who come home missing limbs or other vital parts. They may (or may not) get medical care (of sorts) through the VA - but then, that's about it.
In all fairness they should be given generous disability retirement.
Remember Patricia Lynch? A petite, sweet, pretty blue-eyed blond. Comes home a heroine - parades, and all that crap.
The black girl who was with her was machine gunned through both ankles. Came back on the same plane; no parade, no speeches, no pension - just a discharge.

Hi Lewis, I remember that well, but her name was "Jessica Lynch", and she got a Bronze Star for her "valor" which is also a disgrace. I think you are mistaken as far as the disabled veteran's benefits. At 30%, I got my prescriptions at $9 per prescription per month, and I qualify for just about every medical care there is for FREE, although I still go to my own private doctor. Now, I am at 60%. I get ALL of my prescriptions FREE, I draw my pension, and if I live and draw that pension for 10 years, my wife gets it in full after I pass away, and I only served a little more than 3 years of active duty. (past my ETS) When I found out about Jessica Lynch's Bronze Star, and John Kerry's THREE Purple Hearts, I almost wish I took the Purple Heart that I was offered and didn't deserve, but refused. Now, I think with it, with it, I might have gotten about 80% disability. Akamai
