a 15 year old in the eighth grade? the cops did the world a favor
(CNN) -- A 15-year-old student was shot and killed by police after he brandished a weapon in the hallways of a south Texas middle school, officials said Wednesday. "The student engaged the officers and was shot," the Brownsville Police Department said in a statement. An ambulance was called, and it rushed the student to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Israel Tapia, a spokesman for Cameron County Justice of the Peace Kip V. Johnson Hodge. No other students or employees were injured. School officials and students have since been sent to a nearby high school gymnasium while authorities investigate.

I'm curious about the meaning of ... "The student engaged the officers ... ". it means that he didn't drop the gun when he was told to. they probably told him three or four times, even though once is more than sufficient

It means he pointed the gun at them, probably by raising it as if he was going to fire, or by deliberately turning it towards them.

it was a pellet gun. of course, that has no relevance whatsoever. it deserved to die for being stupid enough to point a gun at half dozen cops with guns aimed at it
