Thanks for posting that, Beth.
This is a subject I feel passionately about.
Some juvies are just plain bad and really DO deserve to get locked up for most or maybe all their life.
Most IMO are NOT like that and it's wrong (I think) to put them on the same level as adult offenders.
I'll click on the link and also maybe look up a few past cases I remember from a couple of years ago.

www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2011/11/while_man_who_pulled_the_trigg.htmlThis is the first case that comes immediately to mind as being an obvious miscarriage of justice. The man who pulled the trigger walks free yet the kid gets LWOP. To me, that's a completely arse-upwards way of sentencing. If you're not going to punish the shooter then this kid's case is a shoo-in for clemency IMO.

Actually, he's guilty of murder. Read the article. The sentence, which is automatic (thankfully) is entirely appropriate. Kudos to the good people of Michigan.

Your reading comprehension is wanting, Linda. She committed a brutal, vicious, premeditated murder. Why are you so soft on juvenile murderers?

I am opposed to juveniles being tried in adult courts, and facing adult penalties. The reason? It is because we have a juvenile court, with a different set of rules. In order to punish a juvenile with an adult sentence, we must break the very rules that have been made for us to live by.
If we are going to make rules, we should not make exceptions to those rules. If we want to punish juveniles as adults, we should abolish the juvenile courts system and have everyone face the same courts, with the same penalties. Age should be a consideration, and not a restriction. Since our society is stupid enough to have a juvenile court, a juvenile who commits a crime should be subject to the juvenile system without exceptions. Akamai

I think you'd just about have to take these things on a case by case basis, wouldn't you?
Are juvenile offenders any less likely to be given parole than adults who are serving a life sentence?

Should we bang up a four year old who took someones sweets? Should they get legal aid? A four year old would not qualify for juvenile court. My point is that a moral sense is developed in childhood, long before the age of majority.

I think you'd just about have to take these things on a case by case basis, wouldn't you? Nope. What would be the point? If something is illegal, you don't do it. Period. Are juvenile offenders any less likely to be given parole than adults who are serving a life sentence? I don't know. I don't believe in parole, either.

A youthful offender may have a better hope of rehabilitation than an adult would.
