On Saturday 5 March, a million books will be given away across the UK in the first ever World Book Night.
As it is World Book night, I was wondering what people thought of e-books? They are getting more and more popular and can hold up to 1,000 books.
I've got Kindle on my android phone and have a read of Pride and Prejudice now and again. (Only got the free ones.)
However, I would miss books and love getting "lost" in a good book.
What do you think of e-books?

Can display b&w pics as well, and can talk if you want a book read to you. Some magazines and newspapers can be loaded. Also plays MP3 files. With the 3G, you can download any Kindle book from Amazon, including free ones, with free delivery anywhere there's a mobile-phone network. Does WiFi as well. Magic.

I thought about getting one for Christmas but wanted to see them in action before making up my mind. That's the trouble with ordering things online.
How many books have you got on yours Talisman?

I like the feel of paper in my hands - I like something tangible.
Only applies to books as I will happily download other media, so it must be a little quirk of mine.
I have loads (too many) and each is precious. I'm very funny about books and cannot throw one away or burn it.
Isn't that odd.

I do give them away to charity shops though. Also buy them at Charity shops. People at work bring them in and leave them in the staffroom, so that we can swap.

I'm the same, but I've just about run out of space to put them. The Kindle is also very handy if you're travelling or on holiday, especially if you have several books on the go, which I often do. And you can usually get a sample excerpt of a book free before buying. Another excellent feature is that you can look things up in a reference book any time you like. Two dictionaries come with it, included in the price (an Oxford – US and UK versions). And a user guide.

I love books.....but I got a kindle for my birthday and I love it also.
Can't get rid of any of my books either..........there is something about having them and the feel of an actual book.....but the kindle is so handy also.....I can carry around tons of books all in one nice neat little book.......My family got me a cover for it that makes it look and feel like a book....it's really fun.

I'm tempted for the holiday reason. Baggage allowance is so low and I can easily read ten books on holiday. Are they easy to read? I like the feel of paper in my hands - I like something tangible. And the battery lasts days between charges. That was early days. A LOT more books loaded now. Charger top left, with USB socket. You can charge it from a computer as well as the mains. In a case, showing one of the screen-savers.

Oh....yes....so easy to read....even in direct light. It weighs practically nothing. Also....if I want a book....I can go to Amazon on the Kindle....download it and have it within seconds! Also....don't have to pay for any wi-fi or anything....if you are in an area that can access wi-fi....you have it. You can also download newspapers....and bunch of other stuff

I gather some other eBooks are good, but the Kindle is the Rolls-Royce. At least the 3G is — I've heard complaints about the previous models.

I thought the most revealing thing about World Book Night was that a panel of authors read through 100 books and discovered that only 30 of them had a story!
The second most revealing thing was that all but one of the books they read all sounded the same and all sounded like they'd been written at creative writing classes!
Whatever happened to originality?
No wonder the mainstream novel is dead.
