""Fishing rights have long been a longstanding source of tension between Europe and the United Kingdom. The issue first emerged as a stumbling block nearly 50 years ago, when the UK entered talks to join what was then known as the European Community (EC). “Only eight hours after accession talks had begun on 30 June 1970, the British got an unwelcome surprise: the six EC members had agreed to have a common fisheries policy (CFP), hammering out a speedy deal that had eluded them for 12 years just as fish-rich Britain, Ireland, Denmark and Norway were knocking at the door,” the Guardian reported in a recent article on fishing rights. Norway even went so far as to refuse entry into the bloc over fishing rights. “The question of fisheries was economic peanuts, but political dynamite,” the late Sir Con O’Neill, UK’s chief negotiator at the time, wrote of the negotiations. Nearly half a century later, it would appear little has changed.""
Not a single word about how the serial liar, Ted Heath gave away Our Fishing Grounds and even got up on his hind legs in the Commons and lied about it ! Even the far left BBC published an article telling the world what Ted Heath had done, the Guardian does not mention this though !
Fishing Grounds are a strategic resource, it things ever got very bad then we could mobilize all British Fishermen and catch enough fish to help feed ourselves. You will not see the Russians overfishing their own Fishing grounds, they preserve their stocks of fish, " just in case", so why shouldn't we ?
Boris has to remain tough with the EU and also he has to lay down some hard facts, nobody minds traditional style foreign fishermen who target specific types of fish but the enormous Dutch Fish Factory vessels that scoop up everything, have to be permanently banned because they kill juvenile fish plus other sea creatures such as crabs which are necessary parts of the ecosystem.
NO SURRENDER BORIS !!!!!!!

I think I may have given my opinion on another thread.😉😁. Boris must carry out what was promised, that means no surrender on our fishing rights.

Quite correct, Ted Heath gave away our Fisheries which were then managed by burocrats in Brussels, most of whom had no idea what they were doing and it turned out that foreign fishermen are allowed to catch more fish in our fisheries than British Fishermen ! Boris really has to stand fast on this, they say that Fish is a minor amount of the British GDP but when our Fish and chip shops had no Cod being delivered and started selling Dogfish as "Rock Salmon", then you realise that something is up. I don't ever touch Indian or Chinese takeaways, I remember only too well the myriad of prosecutions I saw when I worked in the Courts ! but when in the UK I do like to get a Cod and Chips with mushy peas, and the best place to go is in Whitby.

Boris hasn't recovered from his unexpected and unwanted win. Taking back control means committing (climate-change driven) economic suicide faster than Brussels. Virtue signalled.

It looks like Boris is standing fast on Fishing Grounds, the fool Macron said that the French wanted the same access as they had under the common fisheries policy, that went down like a lead balloon. It seems that Merkel is very peeved that Macron refused to negotiate. If I were in charge then I would tell all those interested in Fishing in British waters that a quota will be given to each Country to be reviewed annually but only traditional fishing methods to be allowed, no more massive factory ships hoovering all sea life up as the Dutch are doing and they have to look at trawls because some boats are using heavy bottom tackle that kills all seabed life and of course we need fishery protection vessels checking net mesh size. Whatever happens, Boris has to hammer home the message that Our Fishing Grounds are Our Fishing Grounds and WE say who fishes in OUR waters and we decide on the annual catch allowed.

If the truth be told there is an entire Earth of which 70% is water, to fish in, exactly why these French insist on fishing in British Fishing Grounds instead of going to the Atlantic, Arctic or Mediterranean is a mystery but I suppose they want to do it as cheap as possible and save on Diesel.
