Boris loses court case Parliament opens today.
Labour and the LIb Dems have had their party conferences and it should be the turn of the Conservative party next week...
As Guido reported yesterday, the Government will try and push on with Conservative Party Conference by laying a motion calling for a very short recess at the start of next week. This morning, Corbyn dashed those hopes by pledging that Labour will vote against that motion. Cummings promised to disrupt Labour conference, Guido may have to call this 1:0 to Labour…
Asked on Radio 4, Corbyn said “I won’t support anything that shuts down parliament until is absolutely clear [the government will accept the Benn bill].”
However whilst writing this article, Diane Abbott appeared on Sky News and contradicted Corbyn, saying “the Labour Party’s very benevolent and believes in fair play so we will see what they come forward with”. As ever, writing about Labour’s positions is like trying to hit a moving target…

Legal opinion:
Former Supreme Court Judge Lord Sumption told the BBC this morning that “52% of the electorate simply cannot have 100% of the spoils, they have to engage with the rest”. Rather letting the cat out of the bag.
The referendum was a binary choice, Leave or Remain. If the vote had been to Remain, Britain would not have semi-Brexited, it would have 100% remained in the EU. The British political system is adversarial, very adversarial currently, it usually results in clear outcomes. When a candidate wins a single vote more than their opponents they do get in fact 100% of the spoils. When Tony Blair won just 35% of the vote and 55% of the seats in parliament he still dominated British politics and remade centuries of constitutional order. Creating the Supreme Court for example…

The noble lord clearly doesn't understand democracy. The majority wins.
Pass the hat round:
Parliament’s independent body responsible for MP’s expenses, IPSA, is refusing to pay out for MPs jollying abroad who now need to fly home, Guido has learnt. A victory for the taxpayer…
Whilst Guido understands a Lib Dem whip is now stranded until he finds the cash to pay for the flights himself, things could be worse: Guido has seen the Tory MPs’ Whatsapp group where newlywed David Morris has informed colleagues he has had to postpone his honeymoon…
UPDATE: IPSA have now u-turned on their opposition to paying for MPs to come back from abroad – having sent an email to MPs saying not only will they pay for MPs coming back from abroad, but for their spouses and partners too. Now seems a bit overly generous…

Indeed, there's few more generous than the British taxpayer.
In many ways, as tedious and drawn out as Brexit and the arguments about it have become, they are still preferable to the emotional rantings of a mentallly disturbed child and the sycophantic-masochistic fawning of political leaders over an eco-nihilistic child prophet.
