The Verve's Richard Ashcroft finally secures 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' royalties after Rolling Stones legal battle
It's one of the biggest indie rock songs of all time -- and for 20 years British band The Verve didn't make a cent off "Bitter Sweet Symphony." But lead singer Richard Ashcroft will finally get royalties for the track after a long-running copyright dispute with the Rolling Stones. "It gives me great pleasure to announce as of last month Mick Jagger and Keith Richards agreed to give me their share of the song 'Bitter Sweet Symphony,' " Ashcroft wrote on Twitter on Thursday night, the same day he won an Ivor Novello Award for outstanding contribution to British music. more www.cnn.com/2019/05/24/entertainment/bittersweet-royalties-intl-scli-gbr/index.html
