On May 4, 1970 the Ohio National Guard opened fire into a busy college campus during a school day. A total of 67 shots were fired in 13 seconds. Four students: (L to R) Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, William Schroeder, and Sandra Scheuer were killed. Nine students were wounded This is the photo on the front page of every newspaper in the U. IMO, they were victims. No excuses, but they did not deserve to be gunned down. That's a matter of opinion. They could EASILY have avoided being shot. They brought the National Guard on themselves. Do you really remember it well? It wasn't even news where I lived, so no, I don't remember it. What I remember is that most of my generation whined a lot, when they weren't high.

I couldn't have missed it. For one thing, it happened up in a neighboring state. For another, my parents were against the war and my sister, 6 years older than I, was very much aware of the socio-political situations of the times. I don't really remember much whining, Joseph. A few primal screams, perhaps.

I wish Americans would remember this sort of thing when the get all righteous about whichever Administration shocking them. Hey, it's happened before, the way to stop it from happening is to recognize that and do something about the laws that allowed it to happen, not to dance in horror that nothing like this has ever been known and to blame the current Administration: it goes deeper than that.
"By their deeds ye shall know them" according to St. Paul. By their deeds, we know the 'Communists' of the USSR and of Mao's China, and various groups here - yes, feminists included - and sorry if they bleat that their ideals were something very different. My family often used to call Jesus Christ The first Communist, but neither Communism nor the Inquisition and its 'Protestant' successors had anything to do with JC!
Americans should analyse themselves just like the rest of us and accept that they have many problems, just like the rest of us, that will never be settled as long as they sweep them away as aberrations, oddities, mistakes, not to be looked at.
Either the nation of Jefferson, Madison, Franklin et al is 200 years out of date, or their ideals have been gravely perverted and subverted and the entire system needs a good look-at.
