Lovely calendar, S3.
Wishing a good day and a very happy NY to us all.
Mild and rainy here. More like March than January.

Seasons greetings from Toby, It is surprisingly mild here in Narragansett, I saw deer tracks in our garden and the students are all returning to do another slog at University of Rhode Island. We had to laugh when they departed just before Christmas, they all had massive bags of dirty washing they hoped Mummy would do. The Police were visiting the Student accommodations checking to see if the out-of-state registered cars owned by the Students were all kosher, some were not !

Well, here we go, back to the grindstone til Super Bowl and then Easter.
No more big holidays for awhile.
Enjoy what we've got to work with and hope el nino continues. Rainy today but not cold.
Toby, the college kids are usually a happy lot, no matter what condition their clothes are in. Wish them well. They have years to go before retirement.

Simply put, it is cold! The temps are supposed to go up into the 40sF as of this afternoon, bui this morning is in the 30sF with a chilling wind. I have the day off and am going to drive daughter to school in a few minutes.
Mouse, exactly what is an English "vest"? Is it like an American sweater or jacket? Here, vest means a sleeveless garment you wear over a blouse or shirt but more for a matching "out-fit" than for any practical reason.
I think a few people are just now starting to figure out tax time is coming up and still, the government offices are closed down so where should they send their tax forms to determine whether they will pay out or receive a refund. The shutdown has been going on 2 weeks, so employees will have a pile of work waiting for them when (if?) they return. Didn't Trump stop to think about the mess he's creating?

Didn't Trump stop to think about the mess he's creating? a vest is an under garment worn by men next to the skin and by women next the bra.. made of cotton or wool or one of the new synthetic materials.. light and fine knit and never bulky .. womens are more shaped than mens it is scooped neck and long or no sleeved[so it doesn't show under sweaters/blouses etc ]I stopped wearing them at 12-13 but have come back to them in the last few years during the really cold weather the garment you describe here would be a waist coat or gilet[two very different things ] www.marksandspencer.com/l/lingerie/vests-and-camisoles?scroll=16198

I'm not sure we have anything like that. The closest would be a "turtleneck", similar to what you said but with a high, roll over neck. Maybe an "undershirt"? That would be the closest but mostly for men.
The vest sounds nice for cold days but maybe too warm to be comfortable inside?
We do "layers" when it's very cold. Helpful but not always too comfortable.
