Abstract
Glaciers are key icons of climate change and global environmental change. However, the relationships among gender, science, and glaciers – particularly related to epistemological questions about the production of glaciological knowledge – remain understudied. This paper thus proposes a feminist glaciology framework with four key components: 1) knowledge producers; (2) gendered science and knowledge; (3) systems of scientific domination; and (4) alternative representations of glaciers. But with such a long list of source references one might think how this can be anything but legitimately a valid under taking. So, thinking that I must have missed something I began to go to the references. Following is one I found quite quickly: Sex and death in the rational world of defense intellectuals C Cohn - Signs, 1987 - JSTOR "I can't believe that," said Alice. "Can't you?" the Queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes." Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." [LEWIS CARROLL, Through the Looking ... I ask you, is this really a source, “Alice through the looking glass”? I admit that it has been many years since I was within the hallowed Ivy flowered walls, but can things have changed this much? Do fantasy novels stand in for evidence in a scientific journal? I considered that the article would improve with the references, but no, it gets worse. One reference was about an instructor (obviously, a woman) taking nine teenage girls on a trek on a glacier. One apparent requirement was for the girls to wear old clothes that were worn and dirty. (?). As a person who grew up in a family where women were self-assured and capable, this entire concept is a myth. Since this represents (apparently) teaching at the college level, it is a myth of epic proportions. If this is our future direction, I have definitely lived too long. |

I despair of the road we are traveling...I really do and like you Men I have lived too long in this world of idiotic make believe and pretence ...
I doubt girls going on a gacial trek would have any worn or dirty clothes
today the only criteria to exist appears to be the ability to swallow bull and apply what a certain type hope will become the norms
