Yes, it's high time the snowflakes dealt with literary works that are way beyond their creative disabilities. Anachronism is the left's new obsession. A Virginia school district has banned the reading of two classics of American literature. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain, 1884 To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, 1960 [I'm a snowflake and I'm easily offended...] The Accomack County Public Schools has banned the classic novels after a mother said her high school-age son was troubled by the racial slurs they contain and asked for the books to be removed from school reading lists. The mother, whose son is biracial, said her son was required to read Huckleberry Finn for a high school assignment, but could not get past a certain page in the story on which the N-word appeared seven times. “I keep hearing, ‘This is a classic, This is a classic.’ … I understand this is a literature classic. But at some point, I feel that children will not—or do not—truly get the classic part, the literature part, which I’m not disputing,” she argued at a school board meeting. “This is great literature. But there (are so many) racial slurs in there and offensive wording that you can’t get past that.” “There is other literature they can use,” she argued. The mother proposed assembling a committee of parents and teachers of different ethnic backgrounds to compile a list of books that would be “inclusive” for all students. wavy.com/2016/11/30/classic-novels-pulled-from-accomack-county-public-schools/One parent can do that??? Pretty soon guns won't be needed to cause panic in the US. Just pull out a copy of Huck Finn and watch them run for a safe-space

Huckleberry Finn gave, in the character of Jim, probably the most sensitive and sympathetic portrayal of an African-American (at least up to that time).
To Kill A Mockingbird is so obviously an attack on racial prejudice that the mindset that can regard it as somehow exemplifying racism is so seriously diseased it makes me think the 'objector' needs urgent psychiatric assessment (or at least a course in reading the English language).

The only places that books are banned are in right-wing nut country. At the Harvard book store, Naked Lunch is kept behind the counter. I'm guessing that's because kids come in and steal it. That's about as Draconian as it gets where I live and attend school.

Or are they also on your list of 'right-wing nut' countries?

But the fundamental point is that you do not denounce them for their own censorship. And the idea that Mockingbird in particular was 'banned' because of RIGHT-WING lunacy is hilarious. Clearly, it was banned by people with LEFT-WING delusions rather than RIGHT-WING delusions. On top of the (by now expected) hypocrisy and double standards you also seem unable to remember people's names. Early onset Alzheimers, perhaps? Do try to focus, Caliban.

Stuff happens, but that is why Dex and Sys3 have partnered to do a quick run through with their Zamboni twice a day. I won't promise they'll do this forever, but they volunteered for the month of December to keep things smoother during the holidays.

People should know who they're dealing with.

The mother proposed assembling a committee of parents and teachers of different ethnic backgrounds to compile a list of books that would be “inclusive” for all students. This is another one of those things that makes little to no sense. This parent can't protect her son from the realities of history all his life. Why not start breaking him into reality now? He needs to loosen up and shed some of the sensitivity. Starting with these two books the next thing will be banning Gone With the Wind and all books that are set in a time when Slavery was going on. Parents that are this protective are not doing their kids favors. The school should have refused and referred mother and so to a counselor.
