It's the 3rd anniversary of her disappearance from the hotel in Portugal. It's a case with many twists and turns. Is she dead or has she been kidnapped?bigpondnews.com/articles/World/2010/05/03/New_Maddie_McCann_video_released_457642.htmlNew Maddie McCann video released Monday, May 03, 2010 » 07:35am A new video and photograph of missing Madeleine McCann have been released to mark the third anniversary of her disappearance. A short film shows parents Kate and Gerry pursuing attempts to find their missing child over the past three years. It shows them handing out posters in Portugal as well as chasing up leads from their home in Rothley, Leicestershire. It includes a new photograph of a grown up-looking Madeleine wearing blue eye-shadow accompanied with a pink bow in her hair and a gold bead necklace. The video, produced by family friend Jon Corner, was originally shown at a fundraising event in London in January to mark the 1000th day since the little girl's disappearance. With the Dido song Here With Me as a soundtrack, it begins with a computer graphic of the holiday complex in Praia da Luz in the Algarve where Madeleine vanished. It goes on to show Mr and Mrs McCann in and around Praia da Luz in the early days after their daughter went missing on May 3, 2007. There are also scenes of the couple answering telephone calls and sifting through emails back in Britain. The film closes with the message: 'Thank you for not giving up on Madeleine. Together we can bring her home.' McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: 'The video is designed to remind people that the search for Madeleine is ongoing. 'Just because she's not in the headlines every day doesn't mean nothing is being done. Kate and Gerry are still devoting a large part of their daily lives to the search.'

As sad as this is, it really is a case of parental neglect. In southern European - family friendly - states there is no excuse for leaving your children unattended night after night. They took risks and now they have to live with that.

I agree absolutely, they have been thrashing around looking for people to blame. They put their evening's pleasure before their children's needs. Not just safety, accidents, bad dreams. Where is mummy? In the bar.

The McCanns made a mistake. A terrible mistake. And I'm sure they've lived with that every hour since Madeleine was taken. And you can put the boot into them as much as you want. I doubt it will ever be as much as they've done it to themselves.
What happened to Madeleine?

Sigh. OK. You want to start a thread about how bad the McCanns are as parents you go and do that.
This thread is about what happened to Madeleine.

It is a simple question of parental responsibility. My mother always made sure that there was someone responsible to take care of me before she went off to the market on Saturdays. After our first child was born we passed our holidays in an aunt's caravan, after dinner we sat outside talking. Until our three children were capable of caring for themselves we took camping holidays in secure campsites and stayed very close by until we went to bed. We would have loved to go to restaurants and discos but we were aware of our responsibilities. These people left a child and a baby to risk choking, falling out of bed, waking from bad dreams with no Mummy to comfort them because they wanted their share of 'the good life'. Your children are your responsibility. If you cannot accept that, don't have children.

So now that we have hopefully offloaded the bile about Madeleine's parents maybe we can get back onto the topic.
What happened to Madeleine? Is she dead? Is she still alive?

I've never understood this case. I've never understood what the parents did. I've never understood how the child could have disappeared with no trace. Why take one child and not the other? It is such an odd case. Were the people watching them the whole time and just slipped in and out? If they were watching them.....then they specifically wanted the little girl and she's long gone.........don't think they will ever know what happened to her.

I think she died not long after she was abducted. You don't go into that amount of detail without something really evil in mind. The parents still believe she's alive somewhere and I can't say I blame them. But IMHO I believe she's long dead.
