Eric Clapton catches giant salmon, breaks local record in Iceland Eric Clapton was reeling with pride. The rock legend broke a local record when he caught a 28-pound salmon while fly-fishing on the Vatnsdalsá River in Iceland last week. The fish had Clapton, aka "Slowhand," on his knees "begging darling please" after the first hook. According to a Facebook page sponsored by the Vatnsdalsá anglers, the Layla singer ran half a mile down the river before he was able to reel the beast in - almost three hours after his first cast. The giant fish measured 42.5 inches weighing in as the "biggest salmon of the summer," the Vatnsdalsá anglers said. Clapton, 71, released the fish shortly after due to Vatnsdalsá’s strict catch and release policy. www.msn.com/en-us/music/celebrity/eric-clapton-catches-giant-salmon-breaks-local-record-in-iceland/ar-BBvD13I?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

Released after depriving it of air and harming it with a sharp hook. Harming any animal should not be something to gloat about, no matter how minimal the harm is.
I'm sure he wouldn't stick a hook in the mouth of a dog, drag it several metres and then close off its airways for the duration of a picture and whatever else these people do with their victims.
It's always considered ok if nobody cares about the animal or it isn't cute. Pisses me off.
I'd like to see how he feels if we did the same to him.

I thought it was nice that he released it ... unusually so. Not the best that could happen, but some fish live their life out with a hook still in their months. Do you not eat salmon, Chel? Don't shoot me, but it's one of my favorite foods.
