They just picked ten......I'm sure there was a much longer list. These top 10, 20, 50, 100 lists are never objective.

I like most of the 10, but Ian Paice is my favorite and should have been there. Have to agree ... nothing Jann Wenner has his thumb in will be objective .. whether it's a readers' poll or whatever. He's behind the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, after all, and that has never been a fair tribute. Thanks for the link, Sadie. I thought they had gone pay for their online content.

The ending of S King's Firestarter has the girl taking her story of huge Govt conspiracies to a publication that is totally independent and fearless, as her dad had told her to do. In the last line she is knocking on the door of The Rolling Stone.
I didn't understand this for a while, then I heard a bit on a F Zappa record where someone says that they had read something in the Rolling Stone, and someone else says, "Oh, it's gotta be true," and realised that the Rolling Stone is a magazine that you don't really believe what it says.
Oh, oh, oh, oh - Terry Bozio as well. I'll bet they didn't have him.

My main quibble at the moment is that Ritchie Blackmore should have fallen somewhere in the top 5. Otherwise, I'll have to take a longer look and report back later.
Thanks for posting this, Sadie.

Thanks Sadie. Rolling Stone is pretty consistent with the quality and quantity of articles hard to find elsewhere. Their subscription rate isn't bad either for what you get ... especially access to the archives.
