I think we, here, tend to associate him more with his relationship with Rod McKuen in the 60s and McKuen's English translations of his lyrics. My mom liked him a lot.
"Le Moribond" became "Season's in the Sun" and a huge hit world wide ... to the point that got so tired of it they dreaded to hear the start of it on the radio. It was well done, just too much sorrow. (Terry Jacks) I think McKuen also translated "If You Go Away" and it was covered by a number of English and American singers.
