"Police forces are investigating at least 169 of their own officers and support staff for alleged predatory sexual behaviour, according to reports. A high-level meeting in Chester saw senior officers discuss increasing concerns about corrupt policemen carrying out offences such as rape, sexual assault and voyeurism, the Guardian reported." www.talktalk.co.uk/news/uk/article/169-police-and-staff-in-sex-probe/97965/So... Not just content to exceed the speed limit, with "evaluating my vehicle" as an excuse, or beating up confused ladies in the custody suite, then? Or illegally harassing tourists and damaging their property in the name of "preventing" terrorist bombings.

when expectations are relaxed and discipline is relaxed then corruption increases...why the surprise that the police are just as bad as other areas of society..they have been politicised...crims go free constantly and so standards drop and drop there are a few bad eggs in any group..but like every where else the scum is rising and graduates with no experience rise as those with street experience have to constantly look at HR..PC and lawyers swarm like the rats they are and don't forget the targets and ever lasting paper work...no way to run a police force...and of course the bad uns learn from the top...and the top is very suspect and has been for some time thanks to interfering politos when you two blairs together how could it end well

So why make excuses for one lot and demonise the other? It really is irrational. And as far back as there's BEEN a police force there have been corrupt coppers. You can hardly blame Blair for (to take a few examples at random) the Vice Squad scandal in the 60s, the cops arrested in Countryman and the cops who lied about Hillsborough. Sometimes it's best just to be honest and admit that people are people and some people do bad things. That doesn't mean that all or even most of them are bad. And what's true of the shanglos is just as true of us Roma!

I fail to see how the two are interchangeable....one is an organisation paid for out of the public purse..of which we have expections and a right to expect better the other is a foreign group to whom we owe nothing and don't need or want

Indeed but we can blame him for the radical politicisation of the constabulary (and the once impartial civil service, for that matter). In any case it only takes one rotten apple to contaminate the entire barrel.

In any case it only takes one rotten apple to contaminate the entire barrel. The politicisation of the police started under Thatcher. The same's true of the civil service. And the last sentence is the usual guilt by association nonsense. You might as well argue that because one English person commits murder all English people are murderers. Your last sentence really is that silly!

Of course it's silly, Mouse.
Worse than that it's deliberately dishonest.
To hold a whole group responsible for the actions of an individual is bad law, bad morality and just plain bad on every level.

Individuals are evil; individuals who belong to bad groups aren't necessarily evil.
One of my proudest achievements is converting a former BNP member away from his beliefs.
You have to try otherwise we might as well as go and commit suicide.
The values of the West are essentially liberal values and all extremists and fanatics are essentially illiberal.
