the only sure bet is that zenyatta, the greatest filly who's ever lived, and close to being the best horse ever, will win the classic. the only drawback is that you won't make any money. she'll probably only pay $2.10-$2.40, across the board

Thank you for the schedule and the link, Jim. This is the 7th time it's been held at Churchill Downs and excitement is high. Zenyetta is definitely the favorite - well deserved! Here's a good article. European invaders? I thought Breeder's Cup was a world wide event, which means they are very welcome. Zenyatta Favored In The 2010 Breeder’s Cup Classic In November A total of 184 horses were announced on Wednesday as the pre-entries for the 27th Breeders’ Cup that will be held on November 5-6 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. Among these are Zenyatta and Goldikova which are two extraordinary mares who are set to race. Both have been sensational in Breeders’ Cup action and they will both be seeking their third victory in the event. There are a total of six previous Breeders’ Cup winners pre-entered in the 14 races, but these two are among the favorites. Zenyatta won the Classic last year and the Ladies’ Classic in 2008, while Goldikova is a two-time winner of the Mile on turf. But the clear favorite for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup is Zenyatta according to Horse Racing sportsbooks. Zenyatta has been practicing this week at Hollywood Park and on Friday, galloped almost 1 1/2 miles on the main track. The week has been featured by exercising with enthusiasm under rider Steve Willard who stated how impressed he has been with her recently. “Is superb adequate enough?” Willard said, describing the gallop. “Judging by her aggressiveness, she’s training really forwardly. If I gave her her head, she’d go [three furlongs] in 35 and change. Her mind is in a different place.” She is the clear favorite for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic and is unbeaten in 19 starts. She will be flown to Churchill Downs on Tuesday after completing her final workout at Hollywood Park on Saturday. This will be her second trip to the track, but the first time she will race there. Zenyatta was there in 2009 for the Louisville Breeders’ Cup Handicap but due to wet conditions on race day, she did not start. Leading up to that race, Willard said she handled the dirt surface very well in practice. In her 19 races, only two have been on a dirt track while the other 17 have been on synthetic tracks. But sportsbooks still believe Zenyatta will prevail despite her only racing on two dirt tracks and have her moneyline set at +250 for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic. www.sportsbookgurus.com/news/zenyatta-favored-in-the-2010-breeders-cup-classic-in-november

it wasn't a good day for the europeans. it was only a mediocre day for me
Google Back to Google News Breeder's Cup racing opens with upsets and surprises
(AFP) – 8 hours ago
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Shared Account stunned European raider Midday to win the Filly and Mare Turf as the Breeders' Cup opened with upsets - both on and off the track.
Shared Account, a 46-1 shot, denied Midday a repeat victory in the two million-dollar, 1 3/8-mile race on the turf track at Churchill Downs.
Unrivaled Belle capped the action with a victory in the Ladies' Classic over 3-2 favorite Blind Luck, bringing an end to a day that opened with a brawl between jockeys Calvin Borel and Javier Castellano at the winner's circle.
Borel was incensed by a move Castellano made aboard Prince Will I Am in the day's opening race, the 500,000-dollar Marathon.
The seething Borel had to be forcibly restrained, the incident overshadowing the Marathon victory of Eldaafer - trained by Diane Alvarado and ridden by John Velazquez.
Prince Will I Am crossed the line second but was disqualified. Gabriel's Hill crossed the line third and was awarded second place while third went to A.U. Miner under Borel.
While the sight of Borel being dragged away from Castellano toward the jockey's room was arresting, there was plenty more to look as the 14-race, 25.5 million-dollar Breeders' Cup programme got underway.
Shared Account's triumph - suitably spotlighted as the first Breeders' Cup race to be run under the floodlights at America's most famous track - came against a strong field that also included French challenger Plumania and Japanese raider Red Desire, as well as 2008 winner Forever Together.
Midday, winner of three straight group one races in Europe coming into the Breeders' Cup, was amidst a tightly bunched field heading into the straight.
Once clear she made a game challenge but finished a neck behind Shared Account with another longshot, Keertana, third ahead of Red Desire.
"It's very gratifying beating a mare of her quality," Shared Account's England-born trainer Graham Motion said. "I thought the Europeans looked very good coming here, not just Midday but the French filly too. To win shows just how good Shared Account is."
Midday trainer Henry Cecil said fatigue may have been a factor.
"It has been quite a long year for her and I wonder whether she quite had the zip coming into November, because the winner was holding her at the end," Cecil said. "She'd had three tough races and may not be quite at her best."
Motion downplayed concerns about the firmness of the turf track, which had trainer Sir Michael Stoute wondering if he would send out Workforce in the three million-dollar Turf on Saturday.
"It's in good condition and the only thing I said to Edgar (Prado) was not to go down the inside as I felt it was pretty soft there," he says.
Workforce's bid to add a Breeders' Cup title to his Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victories was set to be one of the highlights of Saturday's eight-race programme, along with unbeaten Zenyatta's bid for a second straight victory in the Classic and French mare Goldikova's bid for a third straight Mile triumph.
Goldikova and Workforce could make up for European disappointments on Friday, when American horses won all six races.
Dubai Majesty won the Filly and Mare Sprint, justifying her owners' decision to pay a 90,000-dollar supplemental entry fee.
More than Real won the Juvenile Fillies Turf, giving her owner, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, a first Breeders' Cup victory and Awesome Feather won the Juvenile Fillies.
In the Ladies' Classic Jockey Kent Desormeaux had Unrivaled Belle lying fifth much of the way, then swept four-wide at the final turn and moved to the front.
"She left them for dead leaving the three-eighths pole. I mean, it was over," trainer Bill Mott said.
Blind Luck ran next-to-last until rallying with three-eighths of a mile to go under Joel Rosario.
There was one last controversy to close the day, as Life At Ten, the 7-2 second choice in the Ladies' Classic, broke slowly and soon lost contact with the field.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said Life At Ten had been "abnormally quiet" while being saddled, and jockey Velazquez said she didn't warm up well, although he had no indication she was injured.
"She never put in any effort whatsoever. I tried to warm her up and wake her up, and she just never felt like running," he said.

Yesterday was pretty strange. What on earth was Borel thinking? Even if he was justified in being angry, going into a rage was a serious breech of etiquette - especially in the vicinity of the winners circle. Here's a decent article about Zenyatta, with a pic. www.nytimes.com/2010/11/05/sports/05moss.html?_r=1&nl=&emc=a27

Zenyatta loses Breeders' Cup Classic by a head to Blame LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Perfection eluded Zenyatta in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday night when horse racing's superstar lost for the first time after 19 consecutive wins. Blame won by a head in a thrilling finish with the 6-year-old mare, who threaded her way through traffic from last place while the crowd of 72,739 urged her on down the stretch under the lights at Churchill Downs. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith blamed himself for the loss. He walked off the track with his head down, dirt stuck to his face. "It was my fault," he said, sobbing. "She should've won." It was so close, a matter of inches, the result had to be resolved by a photo -- a picture that broke the hearts of not only Zenyatta's owners and trainer but millions of fans around the world. Blame went to the front in mid-stretch, then fought off another gutty run by Zenyatta, who lagged well behind 11 rivals -- all boys -- in her customary style. Blame ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:02.28 and paid $12.40 to win at 5-1 odds. Fly Down was third, while Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky finished fourth. Zenyatta was the sentimental even-money favorite, playing to the crowd at every chance on her way to the starting gate. She high-stepped her way to the paddock, playfully pawing the ground as they roared. Co-owner Ann Moss held her finger to her lips as a signal for the fans to quiet down. Zenyatta proved she could beat the boys last year when she rallied from behind to win the $5 million Classic at Santa Anita. It was one of her 17 wins on synthetic surfaces in her home state of California. This time, though, she was facing the deepest, most talented field of her career on a surface on which she had limited experience. Still, trainer John Shirreffs had said she preferred it to synthetic tracks. It was her third time running on dirt; in her two previous races, she beat other girls at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas. But Blame owned home-court advantage. He won twice before on dirt at Churchill, where Zenyatta had never raced. "She ran an excellent race and just came up a little short," Shirreffs said. "She ran her heart out." Zenyatta's 19 consecutive wins tied her for most all-time with Peppers Pride, who retired last year after running against much lesser competition. Peppers Pride never raced outside New Mexico and all her wins came against fillies and mares. American horses earned 12 victories over the two-day championships, with Europe-based horses winning twice. Goldikova wins $2 million Mile race Goldikova won the $2 million Mile at the Breeders' Cup for the third consecutive year, giving Europe its first win of the two-day championships. The 5-year-old mare bred in Ireland ran the distance on the turf in 1:35.16 on Saturday at Churchill Downs. She became the first three-time winner in the event's 27-year history. She paid $4.60 to win as the 6-5 favorite in the field of 11. /snip www.latimes.com/sports/horseracing/la-spw-breeders-cup-2010-results7,0,3029935.story?track=rss

zenyatta is STILL the queen. had smith gone around the pack instead of trying to go through, zenyatta would have won by a couple of lengths. she proved that she's the best, and was definitely the best yesterday. NO ONE else could have had the trip she had and even finished in the money. even with the horrible trip, one more stride, and blame would have been second. she left quality road, who was the second best boy in the race, in the dust. it was just heartbreaking though

here's the tally for the fourteen races. i didn't do great, but a little over breaking even. since i pick two horses to win and show, i won with blame. i also had dangerous midge, goldikova, chamberlain bridge, uncle mo, and unrivaled belle. six winners in fourteen races. not a great day, but satisfactory. yesterday started out very badly though. rough sailing was killed after he broke his shoulder when his feet slipped out from under him. i detest owners that murder horses rather than spending the money to make them well.
