portmeirion..north wales a fantasy village built on an estury on the llyn peninsular by architect clough Williams ellis [lordy my memory]...it has differing styles and is rather continental in apearence and colours..could be thought..Italy..Greece etc set in woodland clough ellis incorporated the fall of the land ....and the rocks play a good part in his village incorporating them into the overall design.... there is an hotel and a few holiday lets in some of the properties..which are not always what they appear and if any one remembers the tv show..the prisoner...well this is where it was filmed the first entrance is an iron gate and then the real enterance to the village....the colour is gradually shaded to give the apearence of age and could be any of the german states while next door is some what English georgian
on this building the front windows are all painted on..even down to the creases in the curtains and the reflection of the next door roof......the real windows are on the other side catching rather super views....brian epstien manager of the beatles was a regular visitor alaways staying in the same rooms
lots of niches around which are either enterances to walk ways or the homes to statues

coming through the gate house to the left is the estury and down in the right hand corner can see just the edge of a viewing platform...the arch makes a good frame for the view..which by any standards is pretty good the view gets better a few steps on the other side of the estury [the road to harlech is on that side of the estury on to the next building down the one street..don't usually have people in my photos but unfortunately there were people around and it couldn't be helped..haven't a clue who these random peeps were

coming out of the archway can be seen the rocks that have been built around..plus the last three persons are part of our lot with walking sticks to the fore and have just noticed the frst two [backs] are also part of our group slightly blured shot showing a small square..which housed a café and a seating area dunno who this is..but he is just one of the many statues dotted around

Nice, mouse.
I took the kids there in the 90s - I'm one of those 'Prisoner' types.
Did you not go to Number 6?

during all this the band played on... they have a system for oldies like us where you can go into any café/shop and a message will be passed on that transport is needed up to the top[if they didn't many7 of us would not be able to enjoy] ...we had also ordered one for several of us to use to take us around the grounds to vantage points on the woods..which was rather fun...and yes its blured..blame the weather as the heavens opened this is one of the views...there are also different effort needing walks
