Judge gives gypsies on illegal camp a year's grace (despite fact they were told to leave five months ago) They have spent almost two years illegally camped in a tranquil corner of the greenbelt. But five months after the Government turned down their appeal against a council’s refusal to grant them planning permission, the now notorious gypsies of Meriden have finally been given their marching orders. Unfortunately for residents, a judge on Tuesday agreed the Romany gypsies could have more than a year from now to vacate the former pasture land and return it to its former glory. Muddy: The gypsy camp in Meriden, Warwickshire, pictured in February last year For the stoic locals who have already spent almost 700 days manning their own camp opposite the site in order to prevent further illegal development, it means their fight could last almost three years from the point the gypsies first rolled on to the site. If the gypsies ignore the March 31, 2013, deadline to leave with the site on the edge of the West Midlands village, they could face jail for contempt of court. They have an additional month to restore the land, which has turned to mud in sections where 4X4 vehicles have been repeatedly driven across the field. David McGrath, chairman of the Residents Against Inappropriate Development group which have been camped outside the site ever since the gypsies arrived on April 30, 2010, said he had ‘mixed feelings’ about the outcome. this is the site where the residents of the village were told THEY were breaking the law by standing vigil under a tarporlian to stop yet more caravans entering the field funny how those who pay council tax and abide by the law are ALWAYS in the wrong

wise and gentle people must be the worst mis-nomer ever and what a shit tip they have made...and these are indeed romanys.... i am still very curious just where the income comes from for the cars etc,,,its one of those unanswered questions which no one apears willing to resolve
