I don't think I can find the help I need here at the help desk, but I'm going to post this as a heads up to others.
The baby Bell phone company that serves our area has taken some hard hits this year from Insight Cable because Insight has begun offering a package that includes phone service at a small savings from the cost of splitting up communication/media services for phone, TV and internet.
We declined that offer because they were misrepresenting their internet speed and we'd have had to take a lower rate.
Now, Bell (who we have always had excellent relations with) sold us THEIR package ... TV, internet and phone for less on the month with a big fiber optics driven online speed increase.
Except that ...
when the installers came out to change it over, they finally got around to explaining they were going to tie everything in together. That means the internet speed will go lower than what we have now if any of the televisions or more than 2 computers are in use.
We are in the process of negotiating. My online time will be rather erratic until it's worked out to our satisfaction.
So, if your cable company and your phone company are in competition, please do take care with buying packages until you've satisfied yourself you are getting what you need. The sales people are not always on the same page as the tech folks. Just ask questions and hold out for answers ... plus, make sure it's all written up in your contract.

I recommend choosing different providers for voice, data and TV, whenever possible. It's a little bit more expensive that way but you increase your points of failure, which is a good thing.

At best that's misrepresentation, in my opinion. In UK law, misrepresentation means a false statement of fact made by one party to another party, which has the effect of inducing that party into the contract.

They quoted the correct speed - just didn't add the ifs ands and buts. I suspect most people wouldn't think to question. This household happened to be one of their exceptionally knowledgeable customers.

Finally ... an agreement has been reached. We can't get the speed we wanted to buy but they are giving us quite a discount for the package we are able to get so that we've come out ahead by enough to keep us happy customers. Far better than the cable company felt they could offer, at least.
