On a lighter note ... or not
This is one of the performances that resulted in cancellation of the Smothers Brothers Show. A short clip of that is below the full version by the Chad Mitchell Trio.

Possibly the first anti-Vietnam song -when it was still part of French Indochina
It took some finding because I thought it was Jacques Brel (despite being Belgian) and went looking all over the place for Letter to the President - and who here ever heard of Boris Vian?

How could we have got so far without Billy Bragg?
I only knew the Donovan version of this, had no idea she wrote it
And that makes it impossible not to include the immortal

this is, without a doubt, the ultimate political song True. I almost put it up but truth is that it's so OTT that I can never take it seriously now without a touch of the giggles. Joe Hill was responsible for this one and I've never been sure whether this was straight up or taking the piss

oh i see now that i came in at page2. apologies and thanks to lin seeing as the thread is her idea. erasmus, snap - you also posted joe hill, and we chose the same version instead of joan baez. i meant to post it to 'may day' since it's international workers day as well. i knew that about joe hill coining 'pie in the sky' btw . nothing like a good ol' irish rebel/resistance song . cant find the grehan sisters singing Henry Joy (McCracken) so this one with the odd inro will do. foggy dew - chieftains

Joe Hill was responsible for this one and I've never been sure whether this was straight up or taking the piss there was a ton of anti war songs, but, this one was anti everything. it does seem a little far fetched now. the strangest thing is that it was written by a nineteen year old.
