In the USA it is widely believed that a lockdown paralyses business and leads to poverty and disruption, both very bad for those in government who are seen as causing the problems by the proles who vote accordingly.
Sweden did not have a lockdown and they managed pretty well, of course they lost the old folk in nursing homes as you would expect but there again, think of all those Pensions don't have to be paid, all those Carers who are surplus to requirements so it's really a Win - Win situation.
