So far, the Conservative, Labour and Lib-Dem election campaigns - only a day old - have been a bit of a PR disaster.
Conservative
Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns has resigned after being accused of "brazenly lying" about his knowledge of an allegation that a Tory candidate had sabotaged a rape trial. His decision to quit came moments before Boris Johnson spoke outside Downing Street when the Conservative party officially launched its election campaign.
The Tory candidate, Nick Conrad, was mired in controversy after comments of his emerged saying women should “keep their knickers on” while debating a rape case, he is no longer a candidate.
Jacob Rees Mogg throws out a 'classy' gift to the opposition - will his patrician remarks on the Grenfell fire ever go away? They'd best hope so.

Talk about kneecapping the campaign before its even started, eh!
Labour
Guido was at the Mainstream election campaign launch earlier today, former Labour MP John Woodcock joined Ian Austin in calling on voters to back the Conservatives, because Jeremy Corbyn could not be trusted on national security and is unfit to lead the country. When he said his piece to camera Woodcock visibly hesitated before saying the words “vote Conservative”. Guido got the sense that it wasn’t a dramatic pause, it was just genuinely hard for him to say. McDonnell and the rest of the hard left are calling the two of them Tories. Labour activists are convinced peerages are on their way.
Jeremy Corbyn claimed today that he didn’t know any billionaires, which came as a surprise to Guido as the Labour Leader went for tea with Bill Gates just this year. It’s not just wreath laying that poor old Jez is getting forgetful about…
Tom Watson, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, has just tweeted “After 35 years in full-time politics, I’ve decided to step down and will be campaigning to overcome the Tory-fuelled public health crisis. I’m as committed to Labour as ever. I will spend this election fighting for brilliant Labour candidates and a better future for our country.” Guido had heard rumours that he wants to become a media performer like Nigel Farage. Tom has a book on “Downsizing” coming out soon and the last couple of times Guido has seen him he has shared weight loss tips! Whatever his future, his fight against the far-left is over…
One thing is for sure, if Tom Watson thought Labour was about to become the party of government, Guido doubts he would be stepping down. He is a very astute analyst of political power.
Three former Labour MPs have been banned from standing in the upcoming general election. Labour's governing body, the National Executive Committee (NEC), has ruled Chris Williamson, Stephen Hepburn and Roger Godsiff cannot stand as candidates in the December poll. The party will select alternative candidates to stand in their former constituencies.
Matthew Collings, one of the country's leading art critics, has been quietly dropped as a Labour parliamentary candidate as it emerged that he dismissed allegations of anti-Semitism in the party as a "witch hunt" and described a former chief rabbi as a "notorious hate-filled racist".

Lib-Dem
Leaflets were posted through doors in Putney which wrongly credited trusted polling firm YouGov for data suggesting the party was neck-and-neck with the Tories.
The projections actually came from a company that is not a member of the British Polling Council and uses national polls to forecast local voter intention.
Lib Dem president Sal Brinton said the party was tightening up instructions for candidates and added: “We have had a discussion with the person who wrote that and asked them to make sure the right company is credited. That was an error for which I apologise.”
She apologised for another leaflet which claimed The Guardian had described the party as “winning and on the up”.
The newspaper was actually quoting leader Jo Swinson following the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election in August.

A plague on all their houses.
The New Speaker
New Speaker Sir Lindsay [Hoyle] has confirmed he will ban MPs trying to tear up the Commons rule book in future, and reverse Bercow’s reforms that allowed Remain MPs to block Brexit. Against the advice of constitutional experts at the time…
Speaking on Nick Robinson’s Political Thinking Podcast, Hoyle said his approach will make it much harder for a future House of Commons to resist the government of the day; specifically around whether MPs can amend business motions that set the way in which the Commons structures its debates.
Looking to restore public trust in the role of the Speaker, he has promised to tidy up, clarify and close the loopholes of the Commons rulebook, so “nobody could accuse the Speaker” of anything. Is it any wonder remainers wanted Harriet ‘continuity Bercow’ Harman to win on Monday…

He could turn out to be the best speaker since Betty Boothroyd - the best speaker I can remember - impartial and totally even handed. The very antithesis of Bercow-ism.
