After three long years of phony war it's finally started.... The game is afoot and the opposition (playing in white) takes the first move. Comrade Corbyn's posited opening gambit as caretaker PM was a non starter, but the team made it's move Britain's opposition groups say they have agreed to cooperate in a bid to prevent a "no deal" Brexit. However, they were tight lipped on how they planned to do this, beyond saying they favored the parliamentary route.www.dw.com/en/uk-opposition-parties-agree-to-work-together-against-no-deal-brexit/a-50184493That means Standing Order 24: An MP may apply to the Speaker for an emergency debate on Mondays to Thursdays during sitting time under the rules of Standing Order No. 24.www.parliament.uk/about/how/business/debates/application-for-emergency-debates/Boris Johnson came back with a very smart move - all totally within the rules, too. BORIS Johnson today dropped a Brexit bombshell by asking the Queen to shut down Parliament to stop Jeremy Corbyn's plans to block No Deal.
The bold move to block MPs from sitting in Parliament for around five weeks over conference season will give rebels less time to launch new plots to stop us leaving on October 31.www.thesun.co.uk/news/brexit/9811352/boris-johnson-parliament-queen-brexit/Parliament is routinely shut down when a new administration presents it legislative programme. Corbyn will now have to commit to moving a no-confidence motion, otherwise it's check-mate.

You still haven't got the hang of this topsy turvy world, mouse. Today's meaning of democracy means the majority loses. The 48% is the minority against the 52% therefore the 48% is far more important. I’ve been on many protests in my time. Some stirring, some damp. But I’ve never been on one as dishonest, even despicable, as the ‘Stop the Coup’ gathering in Westminster this evening. This is the first demo I’ve ever seen that is the polar opposite of what it purports to be. It was dolled up in the noble garb of defending democracy but its chief cry was for the crushing of democracy. Under the banner of preventing Boris Johnson from launching a ‘coup’ against parliament, the protesters were calling for the continuation of the reactionary chattering-class coup against Brexit and the 17.4million people who voted for it. That is, against democracy.www.spiked-online.com/2019/08/28/the-most-dishonest-demo-ive-ever-seen/In my day these people would have been protesting against Parliament's utter aversion to carrying out the people's democratic decision, as Parliament clearly doesn't want to leave and is doing its level best to overturn that democratic decision. For my own reasons I voted remain, but even I accept the result. Democracy doesn't always go your way. We've had a lot of fun sorting out Settled Status for an EU national who has lived in the UK since 1978 To say the process is chaotic would be putting it politely.
