WETHERSPOONS have banned their staff from displaying England flags in all of their 880 pubs as the nation prepares for England’s first match of the 2018 World Cup against Tunisia on Monday, a spokesman for the chain confirmed. JD Wetherspoons has been slammed by one of their staff after he was forced to take down his England display. The employee tweeted: “Absolute joke that we have to take our England flags down at work. “We are an English pub chain.” Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon confirmed the allegations. He said: “We wouldn’t want an England flag being put up in the heart of a pub by a staff member. “Whether flags are put up in staff rooms is up to the discretion of the manager. “We have sent all pubs bunting, which includes flags of all the teams.” Wetherspoons have also declared their managerial staff have the power to remove fans wearing England shirts from the pub. Spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “If managers decide they do not want fans in football shirts in their pub for a game, we leave that to their discretion and would support their decision. “We would back them. This comes after the Royal Mail banned workers from hanging flags on their delivery vehicles during the World Cup. The postal service barred flags and stickers from being placed on vans, lorries, trollies, and bikes. The Royal Mail said the items could “pose a potential hazard to other road users” if they were to become detached. www.express.co.uk/news/uk/975401/World-Cup-2018-latest-jd-wetherspoons-ban-england-flag-russia-fifaWetherspoon boss Tim Martin in the by now familiar diatribe issued along with his company’s results. I’m here to fight for the working man who drinks in my pubs!
At least that’s what Mr Martin wants you to believe.

Now, my family and I are lucky enough to be able to afford to eat out every now and again. www.independent.co.uk/news/business/comment/wetherspoon-boss-tim-martin-should-shut-up-and-pay-his-taxes-a7622736.htmlIf I were him, I wouldn't go to a wetherspoons pub.

I had the unfortunate experience of eating in a Wetherspoon establishment .... some thing which wont be repeated if I can help it I was staying with my friend in Wales and her son invited us to join him and my friends grandson[downs]... I understand why Wetherspoons was chosen as the place to eat, as it is I syppose an anything goes establishment ... but oh what a wretched experience.. noise.. screaming kids snf crap food... thinking I couldn't go wrong with ham eggs and chips I ordered.. the ham turned out to be the type one uses for sandwhiches or salads.. I should have realised when the word gammon wasn't used...
"""""Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon confirmed the allegations. He said: “We wouldn’t want an England flag being put up in the heart of a pub by a staff member.""" really I wonder why not ...

The name ,' Wetherspoons', is rather strange, a Wether is a castrated Ram but how Spoons is connected is a mystery. I never frequented this establishment so cannot pass any judgement.

Tim Martin the owner of Wetherspoons (apparently named either after his teacher who said he would amount to nothing/ the bank maanger who would not lend him the cash to get started) voted Brexit. He has also brought many beautiful architectural buildings that were in poor states, has not changed the facades, and kept them going. In light of Brexit all his ales will soon be British, all his foreign lagers will be replaced with British. A patriotic man, a man that a close friend who works behind the bar, has met. He pops into some of his establishments and talks to the employees. He will do for me.

Quite how one can be patriotic whilst hating the symbols of the nation is a real puzzle.
