August always means the State Fair to me. "Fairest of the months! Ripe summer's queen The hey-day of the year With robes that gleam with sunny sheen Sweet August doth appear." - R. Combe Miller

Lovely quote, Jessie.
August is summer, unwinding and going down. Probably my favorite part of summer, er .. except for the allergies.

Why would you not go by the auttumnal equinox like everyone else? September 22nd is "officially" the first day of fall. You are giving up 3 weeks of summer!!!

I do not make the rules..... but actually we don't give up anything if the sun shines and its warm.. who cares what label is put on it Does England really call the last day of August officially the end of summer? as I understand it yes that was what I read in the t elegraph the other day.....thing is Dex our weather is pretty grim any way and the time of year it is... is not always consistent with the weather we get for eg.. mu mothers birthday is Jube 6th so its a date i remember,, and it has actually snowed on that day..that is the absolte truth I have a photograph of G/son 2 sitting in one of those blow up paddling pooles at he was born in the august so the photo would have been taken when he was 5-6mths old on my 70th birthday it was mild enough to take drinks out side [cardigans]and my birthday is ner the end of November consequently when the sun shines and when the weather is balmy,.. we make the most of it have a feeling we may have written the rules
