The batteries in my camera were too weak, so no luck.
I saw it though. Nice one .. big and bright.

usually a block of free standing stonestone with the names of the local fallen carved into the stone or a memorial plague affixed..ours is stone in the centre of the village ...in the middle of the cross roads today wreaths will be left after a short service once they were sacrosanct ...since we had an influx from elsewhere many have had the plaques removed ..stolen and melted down...sad but true same problem here but it's homegrown instead. take a pic next time you are out and about so we can share in the town yes I will do that...its not a town though..its a village

I hope it gets better for you, mouse. I got up- early, turned up the heat, lay back down and slept some more.
There is so much to read here this morning I have run out of time to post. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. Perhaps I can come back later.

Glad you got your fireplace/stove, Chef. How low do you think the temps will get there this winter. There's supposed to be an El Nina that will affect the west coast by encouraging warmer, drier air.
It's nippy here tonight and wasn't warm all day, although the sun was brilliant. The foliage is at it peak right now .. hardly any green left.
I saw the super moon again tonight. Impressive, still.

is village used in place of town? it's more quaint than town. Hamlet, has a tiny population of 100 or less Village, a village is a human settlement or community that is larger than a hamlet but, smaller than a town. Town, has a population of 1,000 to 20,000 Large town, has a population of 20,000 to 100,000 City, has a population of over 100,000. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlement_hierarchy

I won't use it as a heater as last winter I might have turned on tne heat four times...we get frost on occasion but it doesn't last. It was purchased for the fireplace effect

Your personal enjoyment! I think that's cool.
We have a fire place and it does get some use. Messy though.
One Xmas, my daughter was wadding the wrapping paper into balls and putting it in the fire place with a starter log to clear up the clutter. When she got all finished, she discovered she had wadded up and burned a $100. bill her grandmother had wrapped and put under the tree for her to surprise her after all the gifts were opened. arrrrgh She was upset but it taught her a good lesson - look carefully before destroying beyond recall.

It looks like it may be an electric fireplace, so it will be low-maintenance.

Hamlet, has a tiny population of 100 or less Village, a village is a human settlement or community that is larger than a hamlet but, smaller than a town. Town, has a population of 1,000 to 20,000 Large town, has a population of 20,000 to 100,000 City, has a population of over 100,000. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlement_hierarchythe three hamlets near us have 4-7 and 11 properties respectively... our village used to be smaller than is is now but is still small enough to if not know every one personally ...at least to recognise them.. a church a chapel three pubs [now down to one pub and two small schools one belonging to the church the other to the chapel..because the schools were so small they are now one school on the two sites with two class rooms each and an assembly hall... the village hall is what used to be the conservative club needless to say we have retained the bar...and last but not least we have a flag pole where the flag is raised on st Georges day and if some village worthy has expired..so if we see it half mast we ask who has died ...and also the village green where the summer fete/carnival is held.. the nearest two towns are both 7miles away for doctors and chemists and senior schools ..the road to one is very windy and steep than the other and when it snows we tend to get cut off because of the steepness and snow drifts .. we have three shops..news agents come post office and esentials at one,..one general store and a green grocers who sell home made cakes as well as veg.....the population is quite a mix of ocupations which is the nice and interesting thing about villages the area used to be forested and owned by the church and crown and was a charcoal burning area including some moor and surface coal land hunting area[that was over a thousand yrs ago] later it became part of the industrial revolution plenty of water via streems and rivers and thus suitable for mills ..they are now gone we have a range of housing from the 16th century farms and weavers cottages ... right up until now ..the older properties are all built of stone..with very thick walls and stone tiled roves its also quite hilly and the weather is always uncertain ..with a westwind most of the time but north and east winds now and then sweeping up across the moors making it bitterly cold ...we have our own micro climate which can be totally at odds with the surrounding areas

My early Christmas present from my sister arrived....she knew how much I wanted one...got to go take out of box and will post a picture. lovely Cheff..what does it burn ? when we got ours we went for a multi fuel so we could burn both logs and coal...in the winter or on a horrid day nothing better than opening the glass doors and having an instant open fire ..great for toasting chestnuts too...enjoy its cosyness wet and gloomy morning ...nothing that needs to be done..so a quiet day except the gas chappie is coming to give the boiler a once over and see that every thing up to scratch and working properly before winter sets in for real
