Onward to Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Take a deep breath and rest up. Here comes winter.

St. Andrew's Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew. It is celebrated on the 30th of November. St. Andrew's Day is Scotland's official national day. In 2006, the Scottish Parliament designated St Andrew's Day as an official bank holiday.

Today was, if I remember correctly, All Saints Day. Or, Poor Souls Day, not sure which, but something church related. Our Christmas Holiday season lasts from the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) until January 2. Festive, but also hellish in many ways.

Our Christmas Holiday season lasts from the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) until January 2. Festive, but also hellish in many ways. It is an opportunity for believers to remember all saints and martyrs, known and unknown, throughout Christian history. As part of this day of obligation, believers are required to attend church and try not to do any servile work. Remembering saints and martyrs and dedicating a specific day to them each year has been a Christian tradition since the 4th century AD, but it wasn't until 609AD that Pope Boniface IV decided to remember all martyrs. Originally 13th May was designated as the Feast of All Holy Martyrs. Later, in 837AD, Pope Gregory IV extended the festival to remember all the saints, changed its name to Feast of All Saints and changed the date to 1st November.

halloeen or or the evening of all hallows...there used to be a tradition of donning costumes to illustrated the the good souls fighting the evil souls ... now turned into the secular ideas of ghouls and ghosties and things which go bump in the night the sales people try their hardest and have been for years to get this into a uk annual event...it would seem though that adults like it far more than children by the resulting drunkness and adult dressing up reported in the press nothing more than an other excuse for some one to make money..the same way all the other festivals have been taken over by money makers..mothering sunday..Easter and Christmas first pagan festivals taken over and rebranded by the church... then pagans money makers taking them back again from the church and yet again rebranding them.... the more things change the more they stay the same

Yes, the kids have great fun with it .. so do adults. We have fun supplying treats and interacting with the kids. Because candy and other snacks are available to all most of the time, the costumes are the big thing. This year was delightful.

We had the 80s F for our highs today. I worked outside this afternoon and it was more hot than warm. I'm sorry about your friend, Chef. Was he ill or was it sudden?

I think sudden cause he was always up and about Hi Chefmate51, If you follow your life's path to the letter you will find that your demise will happen as ordained. Some people are told when it is time for them to depart this Mortal Coil. I had a feeling of foreboding that I was going to depart in a few years, I went to a psychic and was told that my time would be up when I reached the age of 93, so it seems that I have longer than I thought. I'm still here.!!!

Hi Beth, More opportunities for Paedophiles to score, maybe that's the reason for the name Trick or Treat? What happened to the warning that school children are given? ' never take sweets from a stranger ' paedophile's must be in their element. Goody.!!! Goody.!!!

You never see little kids trick or treating on their own anymore. Hopefully all parents are up on the dangers.
